I took Darwin to the vet because I was concerned about his diarrhea, it turns out he's fine. The vet agrees that maybe the canned food was just too rich for him. He's eating Merrick dry food just fine now!
Anyway, I also had him check out one of Darwin's ears. He had been scratching at it and it smelled a little funny. I also own a Standard Poodle so I am familiar with the signs of infection. The vet cleaned it out and then sold me some stuff, that I may try, but I've never had much success with most vet ear treatments.
I used to mix up the blue power ear solution for my standard with great success. I still clean his ears with it anytime I groom him and we haven't had any infections since. The thing I don't know is if it's safe for such a young puppy (almost 10 weeks old). I already have the ingredients.
If anyone else uses it did you have success using it with a puppy? How long before it cleared up?
I attached a photo because..who doesn't love puppy pics?

Hi Stefani - just curious - how much canned food were you giving him. When our doodle was young, the breeder recommended just 1/2 tablespoon mixed in with his kibble. Tthat way he was still getting the benefit of the hard kibble. What merrick puppy food are you using?? Charlie loved Before Grain Buffalo which is a merrick product. However, he generally eats Wellness Core now that he is 1.5 yrs old. It seems sometimes he is bored with it and I will buy a small bag of the buffalo.
On the earl cleansing, I would use what you bought from the vet for the puppy. I doubt he would recommend it for Darwin it was not safe. Did he actually have an ear infection??
If so, I hope he is better now that the vet cleaned it out. He is so cute!!
At first I couldn't get him to eat the kibble so I was giving him 1/4th of a can in the morning and another fourth in the evening. He's eating just kibble now though and loves it. I bought the Merrick Classic Chicken and Brown Rice, my other dogs get the Merrick Grain Free but It seems to have a really high protein amount for a pup, so I bought the classic for him instead.
He did have a mild ear infection, but the vet said it should clear up without too much trouble. I could tell his ear was staying dirty and smelly looking no matter what I did, so I figured there was something else going on. I actually called and asked them about the stuff I saw online and he said a lot of people ask about it and use it with success and that it would be fine if I wanted to use that instead.
Yes, I thought it was too high protein for a puppy too. Charlie came to us eating Wellness puppy chow. At 1 year I switched him over to Wellness Core and he happened to eat some Before Grain Buffalo at my daughters house and loved it. He seems to get bored with Wellness Core and when he does I give him he buffalo for a meal or two and then wants his Wellness again. He does not get diaarrhea so I do not get concerned about using both. Keep us posted on how Darwin is doing. I hope the stuff you are using on his ears gets rid of the infection. Will be looking for more photos of Darwin on Doodle Kisses.
