Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Just got done watching "Animal Cops" on Animal Planet.  I was looking to get a Goldendoodle from a breeder, but have decided to go through a rescue group. Don't know if I will get a Doodle though. I do have one in mind but need my hubby involved and he is out of town. He does want to be involved in picking the dog out. But have found there are some many dogs out there that need homes not just doodles.

It amazes me some of the stories on that show. I came from a family that always loved and took care of the animals we had. We had a horse that my parents bought from someone that abused him. We got him we think when he was 5-6 years old. Had him for 35 years before he pasted away. My parents would never sell him due to the abuse he had. He was the best horse we ever had. I just can't see how anyone can hurt an animal.

Funny that I have been watching the same programs here too and was wondering exactly the same thing.  I can't stop watching but at the same time it's so upsetting seeing all that cruelty.  The people who rescue and rehabilitate the animals are truly saints.

I have been watching the same shows as well. I came to realize that I could never work at a shelter or be an animal cop since I would not be able to contain myself and would beat the snot out of these irresponsible people.

LOL I wouldn't beat them, but would want to take every animal home with me...

I would love to rescue but not really set up to do so right now. Maybe in the future, although I wouldn't mind donating food and other items to rescue groups.

If there were animal cops near me, I would have signed up for a job a long time ago!  I WANT TO BE AN ANIMAL COP!

I just don't know how you could stay cool and not say or do anything to the abusing people. I'm not a violent person but ever since we have Monty, I can't even watch ASPCA commercials without crying and trembling with anger. I would not last very long as an animal cop since I would break somebody's nose pretty quickly. Grrr!

I can't watch those commercials either, Jarka.

I have both a rescue and a 'bought' doodle and feel that there are reasons you might purchase as well as reasons to rescue and must consider those reasons before deciding which is the right path for you.

If you are not hung up on a specific type of dog and really want to rescue, go to your nearest kill shelter and choose any one of those deserving dogs and you will be saving a life right then.

Yea I think its a choice either to buy or rescue. I wouldn't at all say someone shouldn't buy. I had that said to me by some family members when I said I was getting a dog from a breeder. It almost made me not want to tell anyone about it. But think we can get a dog we want from the "pound". I think we can get a young enough dog that want have to many problems.

I love puppies!!  But it has been many years since I've had one of my own.  It seems whenever it's time for another dog I feel the need to give a home to one that didn't do so well with their first one.  They come in all shapes, sizes, ages, colors, and personalities.  If this is what you choose to do, there is a dog out there for you!
