Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

From time to time I come across doodle-looking dogs at area animal shelters.  My first reaction is: quick! Post this pup to DK, maybe someone in the area is looking to rescue a doodle!

Would anyone be interested in a group where we post doodle-looking dogs who are stuck in non-rescue shelters?  DRC and the other Doodle Rescue groups are great, I don't want to discourage people from adopting from them, but adopting straight from a shelter rescues a dog and frees the rescue groups for other dogs.

So, whatcha think?  A group where we can post petfinder.com listings?  Post straight to the main group?  Don't post doodles in shelters on DK?  Suggestions, opinions, ideas?

Jennifer, the DRC website has exactly what you are describing here: A group where all petfinder listings of doodles and doodle-type dogs in shelters and with other rescue groups are posted. http://doodlerescue.org/group/doodlesinneedinnorthamerica

You do not have to be a member of the website to look at the listings.

Michele, of Michele, Puddy & Milo, maintains and updates it, and it's a big job, so if anyone here has the time and the desire to  do this, she could sure the help.

As far as making another version of this here on DK, it takes a little bit of know-how to determine if the shelter or rescue is actually legitimate, (sadly, some are not, and there are some scams out there, as well as dogs actually being sold under the guise of "rescue"), if the dog is in danger, and how to find the doodle in the PF listings to begin with, as they are often mislabeled by the rescue group or shelter, and on the other hand, listed as some other breed mix.

I think its a good ideal. Being DRC and IDOG are very strict on the having a Fence and no child in the house hold under 10. We don't have kids under 10 but do have my husband's grandkids up from time to time and can't have a fence. But would love to have a Doodle of some type. So going to another rescues are a way for to do so.

I'm looking now but really can't do anything until hubby gets home, plus we need do some doggy setup for our house. But looking forward to finding our dog.

That's why the DRC website includes the petfinder listings I mentioned above, of doodles who are with other rescues and shelters, many of which have less restrictive polices: http://doodlerescue.org/group/doodlesinneedinnorthamerica

Essentially, the group already exists. Just not on DK.

Because the DRC already does this I don't think I'd create the group here...also because when you're trying to get the word out you don't want to post ONLY in a group. You want it on the main page where others can see.  So if YOU find a doodle listing that speaks to you or near you then feel free to post it, but I don't think we need a whole group.

Poo-Mix Rescue also lists doodles (http://www.poomixrescue.com/) as does Oodles of Doodles (http://oodlesofdoodles.org)
