Neosporin or Cortisone cream

Hey all, 

Ollie has a sore red spot in one of his ears. I think it started as a bug bite. Probably one of those horrible ants. I have been making sure I use his ear cleaner and I have put neosporin on it...

Today I trimmed the hair around his ears in hopes it will help keep it dryer and heal quicker. 

I don't really think I need to take him in yet...it's not an inner ear infection...just a bug bite gone bad. 

So which is better for a small sore...neosporin or cortisone?

The only thing about cortisone that came immediately to my mind was how close is the ear to the eye? Too close for me. Cortisone is a NO NO near eyes.

For now, I would stick with Neosporin.  If it becomes red and inflamed stop the Neo. It is either becoming infected or many have a reaction to NEO after a few days.

hahaha, right? I feel the same way. It had to be a fire ant. I hate them.

It is a little red. I'll keep applying the neosporin and I'm hoping trimming the hair helps!

I wouldn't worry. Steroids are not good if you have a viral eye infection. Ollie doesn't and his ear is far from his eye. I would use both! First the Neosporin and let it get absorbed and then the cortisone. I'm not a vet either but I do have some related training : )

He does have some pretty floppy ears in the way (that is one perk of the floppiness...he can't get to any cream I put on it). He usually falls right asleep when I put him in the crate...I'll put a little cortisone on it then! It's always something with this dog! I don't remember my friends dogs having so many issues lol...that or they ignored it.

Who knows. I have discovered a new species of bug every single day since moving here...it could be anything...I am in Texas. Crazy South. The shoes are a MUST now. :)

I'm with you Joanne! I'm an Indiana girl. I'm used to normal ants...that don't have fire...and I have only seen one snake in my entire life...maybe two. 

Would he accept a ukulele player?

As long as you are musical  :)  All this college and he wants to play music and  travel with the band.  He said he was playing in Austin this summer. You live near there?
