Hey all,

Ollie has a sore red spot in one of his ears. I think it started as a bug bite. Probably one of those horrible ants. I have been making sure I use his ear cleaner and I have put neosporin on it...

Today I trimmed the hair around his ears in hopes it will help keep it dryer and heal quicker.

I don't really think I need to take him in yet...it's not an inner ear infection...just a bug bite gone bad.

So which is better for a small sore...neosporin or cortisone?

Thanks!

Well I don't think he has ' the moves like Jagger' so two hours may be a bit to far   :)

My husband says neither one.  He says to let it dry on its own if at all possible.  My ALD just had poison oak on his inside ear flap and I would keep it clean and wanted to put something on it since he cannot lick inside his ear, but husband said no.

Rachel, next time you go to the vet ask for an all purpose ointment for minor cuts and infections.  We keep Animax on hand as well as an optic ointment and ear drops.  This way we can begin treatment and often by-pass the vet all together if the problem is fairly minor.

Ollie's ear is pretty much better! Yay! It took so long I was nervous. Now I just need his feet to heal!

Glad he's on the way to healing.

So another owie question - Ollie's paw pads got all torn up at the dog park (shoes are on the way)...this is the second time he has had a torn paw pad and this time even a couple "toes" got a tear. He handled it better this time except one of them must have hurt or itched b/c he licked it like crazy and now the skin around that toe and main paw pad is swollen and pink...any suggestions for healing?

I might have the vet take a look if it is really swollen and reddish.

Here it is...he has pretty much stopped licking it because the paw pad itself is starting to heal. It's real pink by his first "toe" Is there anything the Vet would do? Or is it something that just will have to heal in time.

Is it hot or swollen? Hard to tell if it is infected, which would mean an antibiotic would be indicated.

not hot...it was swollen and still is a little...it's gone down some because he hasn't been licking it. I will probably just wait and see...it's good to know though what to look for and that they actually would give him something for it.
