Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We already have an existing two year old goldendoodle, Bo. We decided to get him a little brother because we felt he was lonely. So we got Tye, an eight week old goldendoodle. Yes, it's Bo Tye! Anyway, they rough play, Tye bites Bo's ears with his sharp puppy teeth, and Bo gets a little rough, but no physical damage, they just keep going at it. We're afraid at this early age that Tye might become aggressive or mean with the rough play. Has anyone else had this experience?

What - get a snake? LOL!

I love Bo and Tye ..no experience though. Molly chews on Jack almost non stop but Jack let's her know when he had enough....she doesn't listen..,but he tells her! So cute

No 2nd doodle here but when my daughter got her 2nd puppy she did the same thing to her big sister. I was always so upset because Lexi, the Queen Boxer, use to have little puncture wounds all of her neck....Lexi didn't care, once in a while she was put in her place. Apparently all was okay though as she LOVED her little sister up until the end.

PS, welcome and both your doods are adorable.

Sounds like the norm.  When we brought Sully home, he and Tank acted the same way.  I was horrified and it took a few days to realize this was their idea of play.  I would step in when things got a little too rough.  I also got an empty Coke can, put a few pennies in and put duck tape over the opening.  When they were too rough/loud in the house, I would shake the can and say no.  Dogs (at least mine) hate the Coke can sound and they would stop and take a break.  The Coke can got a lot of work those first few weeks.  Now, I only bring it out once every few months and that's usually when it's been raining for a while.

My doodles play very rough and you should have nothing to worry about.  Sasha was 10 months old when we go Oliver who was 10 wks old.  Ollie grew to be a big boy, he and Sasha are the best of friends and can really play very, very rough.  Sasha is very vocal when playing, you would think she is murdering Oliver - LOL.   If I think it is getting too rough I usually step in and ask them to calm it down or stop.  They chase each other around the backyard like crazy, I just don't want anyone getting accidently hurt.

Charlotte is 1 yr younger and 40 lbs lighter than Webster.  The day we brought her home, she strutted in the house and plopped down on Webster's bed.  Poor fellow, 75 lb dog kicked out of his bed by a 10lb puppy.  Charlotte chewed on his tail, pulled on his whiskers, and snuck his food.  As soon as she got big enough, Charlotte would pounce him, chase him, bark at him, and wear him out.  Somedays I felt like I should stop the rough play to protect my poor Webster, but it was clear that Web could put a stop to the nonsense if he wanted to.

Fast-forward 2 years and Charlotte STILL abuses poor Webster :-)  She stalks and jumps on him, grabs his leg, gets mouthfuls of fur to drag him around, and snatches his leash to pull him where SHE wants to go.  Webster LOVES it.....he lets her get away with almost anything.  They play rough, but there is no aggression.  Both dogs are well-balanced, sweet, well-mannered dogs who interact nicely with people and animal friends.  We did have to buy Webster another bed, though, Charlotte never gave it up.

Thanks to everyone - Poor Webster, but at least he got the new bed!

Just seeing this...first off, Tye is so cute :) :) :)  Second, as everyone says, this is totally normal. Right now it is your job to supervise them while playing, but don't worry too much because they are just figuring out how to play with one another (and boundaries, etc...).  You should have seen Peri with my then-5-yr-old chihuahua.  Oh man, I thought Taquito was going to rip her head off. And I thought she was going to always bite him like that. No way, they figured it out and have a great time playing now.  Don't worry too much.

He is a puppy and that is what puppies do.  Bo will put him in his place when he needs to.  I would, however, give them breaks from each other by crating or penning Tye up.  Tye is a baby and needs naps and rests.

How about this:

Or this:

The first one is Ned with his brother, Gordie, who is twice his size. The second is with his sibling when they got together. This third one is our foster with Clancy.  Sunny weighed about 16 pounds and Clancy weighed 65.

Love these photos! Looks just like my doodles' shenanigans.
