Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our goldendoodle is 8 weeks old!  We are so curious as to what he might look like when he gets older.  He is very fluffy right now, his fur on his back stands up and is just plain fluffy!  He doesn't seem to have much curl, but has some waves at the end of his ears.  His face has a few "wispy" pieces that stand up.  It's almost like he has a piece of fur on both sides that cover part of his eyes.

We love him no matter what, but are very curious if he will look like our golden retriever or if he'll have a shaggy coat.  It doesn't seem like he will be super curly like a poodle.

Thank you!

Congrats on your new puppy! Both of your dogs are beautiful! Your puppy's coat is totally baby fur. It will go through many changes in the first year, but won't fully mature until he is about 2yrs old. Although his coat is pretty straight right now, his adult coat could be totally different. I don't think it will look poodle-y though. If you have time, go to my page here on DK. And you can see the difference in my dog's pics. Connor my golden doodle looked a lot like a golden retriever with extra facial hair when I got him. He was about 5 months when he came to live with us. As his coat started to fill out, he got feathers on his from legs and pantaloons on his back legs! But as it filled in more, he got long & shaggy all over...no more feathers. His hair is wavey with loose curls. Simon my F3 Australian labradoodle had straight fleece at 16 weeks, but as an adult has a spiral fleece coat. the only straight hair is on his face! One of the many wonders of having a hybrid is you are nevr 100% sure of what you'll get, but it is a fantastic journey on your tto finding out.
I would have posted pics, but I am not on my regular computer. And please excuse any goofy typos as I don't generally use a touch screen either. :) Best advice I can give you on you golgendoodle baby is as soon as the vet gives the okay -probably around 12 weeks, enroll him in a puppy training class. It will help him start learning to channel his energy in a positive way and will make for a less stressful puppyhood. Doodles are smart, huggy, happy dogs who need lots of time andhuman companionship and I think everyone on DK will agree, training is not an option, it's a necessity.
I have no idea on his fur as my doodles are still puppies but I just wanted to comment on the adorable picture of your kids and dogs together! Your kids are so cute!
Very shaggy and fluffy
