All you have to do is scroll through the discussion.....

Don't be discouraged if you see a dog that you are interested in and they are not located in your area. MANY RESCUES HAVE TRANSPORTS AVAILABLE AND CAN HAVE THE DOG BROUGHT TO YOU FOR A SMALL FEE. All you have to do is inquire.

IDOG FOSTERS AND REHOMES CAN BE FOUND AT THE LINK BELOW

And that's where I get on MY soapbox about people who do not research the breed before getting a dog; people who get a doodle because they're "allergy friendly" or cute, or good temperament, or my neighbor has one, or "I heard they were good dogs", etc. Big retrievers are not appropriate choices for many people, regardless of whether they are mixed with poodle or not. Had these people gotten miniature poodles, bichons, or any number of other breeds or mixes, these dogs would not be in shelters...but the breed prejudices prevented them from making a more appropriate choice. And of course, had they bought the dog from a real breeder, rather than an internet website or pet store, they could have returned the dogs to the breeders, rather than leaving them in these perilous circumstances.
Okay, off my soapbox. You're right, Amanda. Heartbreaking is the only word. And for the people responsible, the only word is stupid.
I agree with Amanda.

But I also wanted to make an additional suggestion. Even IF there is not low cost transport available...IF a shelter or rescue will adopt out of state THEN we (DK members who are spread out all over the USA and Canada!) may be able to put together a doodle train.

For example--let's say I wanted a doodle in a Sacramento shelter. DK member near Sac could pull dog and drive 2 hours north where DK member B could pick up dog and drive to Oregon to meet DK Member C and so on until Portland where I could drive to meet the dog and take him home for another 4-5 hour trip. This is not always possible and now that it is winter, more difficult with crazy road conditions coming up...but it's worth a shot to consider this if your dream rescue is a couple states away.

AND, if you are able, consider signing up to foster for IDOG so that they pull more doodles from kill shelters and get them into a safe home until their adoption!
OMG!...That is such an AMAZING IDEA!!!.........Let's do it!
It's not an idea I originated :-D but it's a good one!
Yep...I agree on all counts. The number of these doodles that can be saved from the shelters where they are in danger of being inhumanely killed are only limited by the number of foster homes available. Fostering a dog involves NO cost to the foster home, and you can truly save a life.
Gives me goose bumps just thinking about that....
I can tell you that I have fostered one doodle and 6 GSD's and there was only one that I really had a hard time letting go...the tears you shed when a foster goes to his/her forever home are usually tears of pure joy.
I'm in - any doodle that needs to travel through the area around Minnesota has a seat in my car!
ok...Adina since it was your brilliant idea, you should start a group The Doodle Train and let's get interested DK members to sign up that way...The we can see who is where go from there.....
I'll get busy on the group graphic!...lol
Or would you like Karen, Lynne and myself to handle administration?......
Please...the honor and privilage is YOURS :-D
You can make it a discussion in the Rescued Doodles group even...and then simply create a list of people in parts of states and people can sign up under those listings.

For example you can start a discussion: Doodle Train Volunteers East Coast and then make branches to the discussion such as:
Eastern Jersey
WesternJ ersey
South Jersey
North Jersey

Then Doodle Train Volunteers Midwest and so on...? Talk amongst yourselves about that best way to organize. If you think a group is best...that's cool too!
