Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi All!
Perry is doing just great, we're in training and she's growing like a weed! However..... ( LoL)
Evidently we are going to be in need of a steel harness ( doesn't sound comfortable right) haaha! Just kidding!
She has chewed through her second harness in less than a month!!! She chews through right at the chest.... she digs her head down and gets her mouth around it and treats it like a CHEW TOY!!
I assume most of you might suggest it needed to fit better, but if I go down in size, then that one is too small in other areas? i have adjusted it MANY time, trying to get it to fit snugger, but not constrciting... It's just the generic one that pet smart sells...
Anyone else have one to recommend that isn't chewed through as easily?????
Thanks!

Nietzsche chewed through his Easy Walk harness while I was driving. I used it for his seat belt. Never thought to contact the company, but I did take it to the seamstress at our local cleaners and they stitched it up. Good as new. After that I made sure he had a few chew toys in the car.
It could have been worse, Christine. My miniature poodle chewed through the actual seatbelts in my car.
Ouch! That is a very pricey repair.
Have you tried soaking the harness in vinegar/water? I use vinegar to 'set' the color in bathing suits, so I assume it wouldn't harm the skin, but perhaps it tastes bad????? How about making a soak of red pepper? My mom made a paste of red pepper and 'painted' it on kitchen chair legs and it worked very well. You just need to break the habit.
I was thinking the same thing that Karen said: What about a regular collar for around the house? If the harness is to prevent pulling while walking, it's not really an issue in the house. Yes he can pull on the collar, but it's not the same as on a walk where you are trying to go one direction and pulling is a constant irritation.
The part they are calling the belly strap is right in the armpit in the drawing. See where the dog's front left leg ends, there's the blue strap.
I've been putting that harness on JD at least twice a day for 6 and a half years, lol. It's in his armpit.
I can't believe how much this is making me bonkers. I feel like you are my sister and we are butting heads! LMAO And you are Not going to win this Cookie!
Okay, one more time. I have BOTH types of harnesses here. An old one ( pink and tiny. it won't fit Spud) and a Gentle Easy Walker
Remember how you had to make the dog step INTO the leg areas?
Look at your Walker Harness. That Belly Strap is NOT attached to the sides . There is a belly strap and a hallo strap. That's it.
Okay, I give up :) Let's agree, to Agree, that our Gentle Walkers are the Best Harnesses :) Whew.
But if you ever get a wild urge, find an old-style harness and see how it fits. Then throw it away.
I'm eating my cookie now.
I am so confused that I'll agree to anything right now, lol.
At any rate, the straps could cause hair loss and/or amtting on whatever part of the body they cover if the harness were left on a good amount of the time, and isn't necessary in the house. How's that?
Here, have a cookie, just for listening :)
OMG! yall are cracking me up! Yall have pulled out the PHOTOSHOP for illustration! that's a laugh needed! Next up we'll have color charts for poo! ( ohh I hope not! ) heeeheee!!!
