This is really something to celebrate! Hopefully, we will be kept up-to-date as Sophie recovers and begins her new life!
Thanks again to all of you!
What a relief!!! Has she been adopted yet?
Her recovery is going to take awhile...incidentally, THAT will carry some expenses, which the surplus from Sophie's Fund should cover, thanks to you all... I expect that they are going to keep her with her foster mom during her recovery period. I will keep you all updated as i hear about her progress.
Awesome, my daughter has been asking me everyday - she will so glad to hear!!
WooHoo! for Sophie and the good people of DK!!
What a wonderful Christmas present. I hope she is better and adopted into her forever home by Christmas. Thank you for letting us know about this excellent news.
I'm so happy for Sophie! She'll find her forever home very quickly once she's fully recovered.
A LETTER TO ALL OF US FROM SOPHIE'S FOSTER MOM:

My name is Elizabeth (Liz) and I am Sophie's foster mom. My husband Don and I have been caring for Sophie for a little over three weeks now. It has been an amazing adventure so far and we are so thankful for the opportunity to take care of such a gem! We truly have fallen in love with this girl.

I could not help but cry while reading the posts on the DoodleKisses forum. I am so amazed by the generosity and love of everyone and their willingness to support Sophie.

Over the past three weeks, we have watched Sophie get accustomed to our home. She is a smart, happy- high energy girl that loves to snuggle, play with her toys, and run around- especially in the backyard. At first, it was obvious her sight was impaired, she would run into everything! She managed to run into the front door, the backyard fence, and everything in between. It was so fun to watch how quickly she adapted to her surroundings.

Pre-surgery, her vision was comparable to looking through a windshield glazed over with thick ice. She relied largely on her sense of smell and hearing. Despite her difficulty seeing, one of her favorite things to do was play with the ball in the backyard. She listened for the neon pink ball to hit the ground and took off running. Using her sense of smell, it took her along time to find the ball (and sometimes required a bit of help) she persisted and did not give up.

Her surgery was on Monday Dec. 1. The surgery went well, and she spent the night recovering at home. She was very groggy but is feeling much better today. She had her follow up appointment and the Dr. says everything looks great! She still has the collar/cone on and her activity is still restricted, but she is doing well.

She discovered birds today while waiting for the doctor. She was excited to watch out the window in the car ride home, staring out the window intently. She has also discovered that there are fish in our fish tank-tail wagging and all, she sat and watched them swim. It is truly amazing to watch her discover the world again, she is interested in everything!

My husband and I want to thank you all for helping Sophie. We feel so blessed to be a part of Sophie's life. We promise to keep everyone updated on her progress. We have even taken a "before" video of her playing ball in the backyard. When permission is granted by her eye Dr. to play ball again, we will post and "after" video. Then, we will all be able to see the difference it has made in her life.

Thank you again,

Don, Liz, & Sophie

IS EVERYBODY ELSE CRYING, TOO?
This is just WONDERFUL news !!! Thanks so much for sharing, Karen; we can't wait to hear more and follow Sophie's recovery and new life. Also thanks SO much to Don & Lis for caring for Sophie. You have given her the gift of life, and everyone here on DK very much appreciate your compassion and care.

Happy HAPPY Ending !!!

(YES, we're crying too)
That is so sweet for them to take the time to write us!!
Oh how wonderful it must be for her to see the world around her. Crying here, too! I can't wait to see the videos.
Crying? Are you kidding me? Its like a flood going on here!

To Don and Liz - if you are continuing to read these postings, thank you for caring for this darling girl. I'm sure we would all love to see the videos! Sophie must just be wondering what the heck is going on being able to see all these wonders.

Thank you for being able to take her into your life and care for her until her forever home is found.
