Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I have a 2 year old Austrialian Labradoodle, Since birth she has had one grand maul seizure and and one that resembled that of fainting. I spoke with the vet and they say that this is common in puppies. This am she fainted or siezed after jumping up from a sleep to chase the cat. Does anyone else have this happen?

I think you should check out the group Health and Medical Issues where thee have been discussions about seizure disorders.
Hi Laura,
I'm sorry to hear that Ebony is having this problem. There is a group here for owners of dogs with epilepsy and seizures, and I'm sure it will be helpful to you. http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/seizures
I am confused by the vet's comment that fainting and seizures are common in puppies. You doodle is not a puppy at 2 years of age. I've also had quite a few puppies in my day, and none of them fainted or had seizures.
The Seizure Group will have some good advice and info for you, I'm sure.
Hi Karen
She seized x2 in her first year and then again yesterday morning. His comment with the puppies is based on a hypglycemic event. I changed her food to less carbs and more protien and she had been fine for about 6-7 months but unfortunately she had a siezure yesterday morning. I think the fainting comes in to play becuase she is catatonic in her siezures. One she was "paddling" and now she is just frozen for about 45 seconds. Scarey stuff.
Laura, join the Seizure Group. Very caring people whose dogs are being treated with various medications and alternative treatments. Lots of wisdom and advice there. Simple tips for controlling or shortening the time of the seizure, too.
As I understand it, many dogs with seizure disorders go for long periods between seizures, and sometimes have clusters; no pattern to it, and it can be difficult to pinpoint a cause.
One danger with seizures is that the temperature of the brain rises when a dog is having a seizure; the longer it lasts, the higher the risk of brain damage, so you do need to try to control them. I am sure the members of the Seizure Group will have some advice for you.
will do... Thanks
I would take her to another vet or at least get another vets thoughts.
Hi Andrea;;; I do have a cat but the food is up out of the way and she is unable to eat it. But I will be very careful not to let her eat it.
