Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
WE ARE SO STINKING EXCITED!!
We have always been dog lovers, but since our sweet chocolate lab passed, we've been unable to have another dog due to my daughter's asthma. She has outgrown that, and the allergist gave us a guarded thumbs up to a doodle, as long as we know that she will most likely need allergy meds.
When we went to selection, my daughter's allergies flared horribly. She didn't have breathing issues, so that's a good thing.
The breeder has more than 35 dogs in the kennel, most of them Goldens, and Loli's mom is a golden. I am sure the overwhelming amount of dander in the air contributed as she has been around many dogs recently with no problem.
So...
We are fairly certain that we will need to bathe Loli immediately upon bringing her home to remove all the excess dander and golden hair from mom and kennel mates.
She will be seven weeks old. Is this safe for her? What should we use as far as shampoo? I've heard a variety of products, so I am looking for best product as far as this tender age.
THANK YOU!

I am an adult with asthma and had trouble when I had my black lab-but NEVER any trouble with my doodle. Good luck-I would keep the dog out of your daughter's bedroom. Its just an extra precaution. Enjoy the new puppy!! I do believe it is due
to the amount of dogs and dander that caused her allergy trouble. The doctor tells me our bodies can handle one or two triggers but the more triggers you pile up the more likely Allergies/Asthma will kick in..
most breeders will bathe thier puppies the day people come to pick them up. Just ask them to not do that so that you can the day you get home. 2 baths in one day might be a little much for thier sensitive skin. We used aveno baby rinse dye and fragrance free.
Thanks all!
We have a hedgehog and two guineas, so I was thinking that the Aveeno Oatmeal baby wash would work as we use it successfully on those three pains in the butts. :)
The choices at the pet store are completely overwhelming so I appreciate the input.
I have terrible allergies and asthma, and also had problems when I went to the breeder with all of those dogs there, but no problems with the doodle at all (still take advair, but need it regardless of when i'm home or on work travel away from the puppy.) We use PetHead Tearless Shampoo and dye/scent free detangler from TrueBlue. I don't allow the puppy in the bedroom and I both comb out her hair weekly (outside!!) and wash the blankets she sleeps on weekly. Good luck!
I hope we have the same good luck!
