So we picked up our puppy from the breeder just about 2 months ago, and since then we have had a house full of joy. Here's the problem (?)...my wife wants another one already. The breeder we got him from has a pup that was born 3 days earlier than ours still available. For the first ten weeks of these dogs lives they were together (not sure if that means anything or not), so the thinking is that it would be a natural fit. Have we lost our minds wanting another one so soon? Help!
p.s. my sister has two doodle pups and thinks it a great idea...but she also thought her cutting my hair when we were kids was a great idea as well. I'm just sayin.
LOL--you're only as crazy as a huge number of us here on doodlekisses :-)
I have three dogs (two are doodles) so I think multiple dogs is great! Personally, I would not want to puppies at the same time. I would wait until my first puppy is a year, fully potty trained, and had already been through considerable obedience training. HOWEVER, there are a handful of members here who got a pair of littermates at the same time and have enjoyed the experience of having two same age puppies. So it can be done and if you are prepared to have two puppies to deal with, go for it!
Also, there have been 2 to 3 discussions on here on the pros/cons of having two doodles. You might do some searches in the forum to find them and give you more things to think about. There was also a blog on this topic several months ago. Good luck in your decision and let us know if and when puppy number two comes home!!!
I say go for it too!!! Lacie, my first doodle was only home for a little over a month before I wanted another one. And I am so glad I did it! I got Mia, who is only 2 months younger then Lacie. They are great buddies and wear each other out, not to mention how fun it is to watch them. I think once you've had a doodle you can't help wanting another. In fact...I wouldn't mind one darn bit if another doodle fell into my lap!!!!! PLUS!!! what a wonderful Christmas gift!!! Your wife would be so excited!!!!

Ha! I did that to my sister too! My mom was so mad, because we had matching short bobs when we were little, so you could really tell that I cut a piece off.
Anyways, back to the real topic. I say go for it! If you have the time. I would make sure you have one puppy trained, because bringing in another one that may not be tried can destroy all the work you have already put into training one dog. But I think it is a great idea, and it would be a perfect fit. Can't they tell their litter mates smells? That's why breeders send you home with something that smells like their mom and litter mates, right? It would be great for the other to have a companion and they could romp around to get out their extra energy and then be extra good when they need to be. Good luck
We picked her up Saturday and she is an absolute treat! My wife (and other doodle) were out of their minds excited about it! I added a few new pictures on our page of her with her now new brother Zeke.
How's it going? We are planning to get our second dog in 2 months - he was just born two days ago. Our first, Lucy, is just 4 months old and is AWESOME. I am a little concerned about training and behavior issues (eg - since Lucy chases my cat, will the new dog pack in with her?). I figure we have two months to work out any major training issues before the new pup comes, though.
We've actually seen a slight dip in the progress of the fist dog in his "trained" habits. He was doing so well with the house training, but has had some slips the past couple of days with the new puppy. For the most part everything is good...they play together a lot! We both very excited to have her in the family, and I'm sure you'll feel the same way when your new one arrives. Good luck.
Things have really taken a turn...for the positive. They love spending time together running, jumping, chasing, and even cuddling. We saw a dip in the training progress of the first puppy for a few days, but he has gotten back on track in is in total control again. This is a for sure good thing.
