Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I'm obsessing over the different coat types because Wispa doesn't fit into any strict category. I look up coat type photos and i see pristine examples of fleece coats or wool coated doodles that looks just like poodles, and then every hair coat we see seems to have a labrador coat with some wiry hair.
Wispa is none of these! Or all of these?
See what I mean?
Ok, ok, I guess it could be down to her still having a changing puppy coat, it's just that I've seen other puppies her age (4 months) with much curlier, fleecier, or flatter hair coats.
I'd love to know she's not alone in being a mixed up coated doodle :) And I think she's super cute because of it! Scruffy, but non-shedding, and super easy to groom so far *fingers crossed*

Wispa is adorable! Her coat is not permanent at 4 months. Let me tell you, Owen's coat didn't settle until after one year. Both of our doodles have a variety of hair types in their coats.
My doodles have pretty consistent coats but belly hair, I think that's what I'm seeing in the second picture, is certainly different than hair from the rest of the body.
Ahh, yes, it's her belly, and it's always been short and straight like that.
Your doodle is adorable! A lot of coat changes happen the first year. You also can't be sure about shedding until at least after the puppy/adult coat change.
Lily started out with a wavy fleece coat- This is about 15 weeks:
Now a year later she is much curlier- esp on top of her head. Her color is also changing from black to silver/blue in many areas.
I can't get enough of these coat change photos, the difference is always so amazing!
Lily is super cute, by the way :)
I totally agree - it's amazing how some (but not all) can look so different, and some don't really change that much. You can see a female puppy in my profile picture that we are thinking of adopting - she already has different coat types, wavy under and wiry. I just have no idea how she will look full grown, and I can deal with minimal shedding but not tons of shedding. Since you have since lots of pics and are so interested in the coats as I am....what your opinion??
I am at work so no access to the close ups of her coat but I can tell you that Daisy has 3 different coats. White chest is smooth, straight and soft just like a puppies, back is a little wirey and her legs and head are soft and really curly.
Just had a peek through your photos, she's gorgeous!
I guess it just goes with the territory of a mixed breed.
I don't have time to post individual photos right now, but my Rosco (see photos on my page) has a very mixed coat. His thighs are curly, his belly looks like your dog's, and his face is different too.
Sounds just like Wispa, except for the long hair bit. Hers is pretty short compared to other doodles I've met.
I now have an amazing image in my head of a doodle having stuck a paw in an electrical socket cortoonishly, hilarious!
Here is a discussion where I posted pictures of Gavin's coat change in the first year. He now has a coat much like Lisa's despription of Daisy. http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/puppymadness/forum/topics/coat-ch...
ps Wispa is the cutest!
Wow, what a change! And quite the looker :)
(ps Wispa says thank you, being cute helps her snag treats from all sorts of people)
