Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello all... My husband and I are about to add a mini Goldendoodle to our family.. We go pick put our pup in 2 weeks. Ive been set on getting a boy because I heard they were more loving and have a better temperment but wanted other opinions on this? Is there a big difference between the sexes or no? We want an easy going and loving dog, especially since we have 3 children. Would like to hear everyones opinion on this. Thanks!! :)

Also, I've known a lot of twinkled eye grandmas in my life. Just because my own wasn't twinkling doesn't mean nobody else's was. sheesh. I've also known a ton of grumpy reserved men. You cannot stereotype dogs or people based on gender. It's offensive.

No offense intended, please read the second sentence of my comment - everyone's opinion will be different and remember, this was not MY writing, it was quoted from a site I found some time ago and saved.

I

I know, I'm not offended by your opinion, just by the notion that all grandmas are reserved and all grandpas are twinkly eyed and more engaged. I just hope my eyes are still twinkling when I'm an old lady. I'd also like to think Sophie Bear is not going to be as described in the above. She is so playful and full of life, I can't imagine her being that way ever.

It would be good though to know what the source is of that information. I think, could be wrong, the excerpt is based on opinion but written as fact, which can be misleading. I think it's important if you are quoting something that you disclose the source of the information.

Funny, thing, I looked but didn't save where I found the info from.

Many years ago I had five dogs, two borzoi, two american pitbulls, and a yorkie/cairn mix.  Three of the four large dogs were males and one borzoi and the terrier were girls.  The four large were absolutely TERRIFIED of the little 12 terror....errr, terrier and took all directives from her. I wish you could have seen the five food bowls lined up with the little monster going from bowl to bowl eating her fill while the other four dogs (all of which were over 100 pounds) sat and waited for her to finish.

ok, but that is one experience. You cannot extrapolate from that that all or even most female dogs behave that way. I'm not as experienced with dogs but the only dog I've ever met with serious dominance issues like this is a male goldendoodle. He is very aggressive about gaurding his resources, whereas my male goldendoodle is the most laid back guy around.

They are just dogs, like people, they have their own personalities, strengths and weaknesses.

My male was neutered at 8 weeks, he is almost 5 years now.  He lifts his leg to pee.  He is also the alfa dog over my female, who is two years old and she is amazingly affectionate.  If she has ever had a mood swing, it has been while I was at the grocery store!  She is always happy.  Neither dog hump anything or anyone.  My male has laser focus when doing obedience, as he loves to perform, and looks to me for what to do next.  He is extremely smart.  My female is a bit more independent, as she will run out of site and my male won't.  I cannot agree with much of what this article says.

Neither of my neutered males lift their legs and if I let them they would hump all day - quite embarrassing in public, to say the least.  I've never had a female with that trait myself.

As I stated before, I'm not a dog whisperer and I didn't mean to offend anyone, just trying to share some info I had.  Having been a veterinarian technician for many years in the past, I figured my experienced combined with personality traits of dogs I've had in the past may have been some help.

my dogs take turns humping each other, I'd say it's 50/50. Sometimes they hump each other's heads to keep things interesting.

Sherri this made me laugh. Every once in a while Sadie will hump one of the dogs she really likes to play with at the dog park and I always yell, "Sadie! You're humiliating me! This is a family park!"

lol. I always tell Sophie and Winston "You tell him: No means No!"

Actually, err, I think Winston loves getting humped. He always has the goofiest grin on his face. Funny guy!

Too funny. You must have a wonderful time with them. And they are adorable too.
