A friend of mine is fostering a dog named Keller. He seems to have been abused i the past. He needs a very expensive surgery to live. I believe there are actually 2 surgeries involved. The vet has agreed to do these at a reduced cost because without this surgery he will die a very painful death or have to be put down. Here is Keller's story from his chip-in page:
Keller needs you help!! He has a bi-lateral perineal hernia (simply put his intestines are protruding from is rear end). This is a life threatening condition caused either by not being neuter (he is now!!) or blunt trauma or both. Keller's owner passed away and the family was not kind to him and finally dumped him. We thought he was ready for his new forever home but when we groomed him discovered the hernias. Our vet is working with us to keep costs down but typically this surgery is $4000!!! We are trying to raise half of that. Every little bit helps so if you can spare just a few dollars it would be a big help! Keller is blind and the sweetest little terrier you'd ever meet! He deserves a chance!
If you would like to help Keller, here is the link to his chip-in page: http://dixonkeller.chipin.com/keller-dixon-animal-protection-society
I know any donations would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE*****
I got this message from Keller's foster today:
Two weeks can feel like a very long time. Keller will go in for the first of hopefully only two surgeries on Friday. If it doesn't work the first time we'll have to go back in so send him your thoughts and positive energies on Friday!
Me again: Please keep Keller in your thoughts and prayers. He is such a sweet guy. Keller's chipin is only at 15%. If any of you (who haven't already) are interested in donating, his chipin account is:http://dixonkeller.chipin.com/keller-dixon-animal-protection-society
Thanks to all of you who have donated so far. I will keep you updated on his progress.

EVERY DOG deserves a high quality life of being loved. I will gladly chip in what I can, It is so hard not to wish the harm on the owners that they may have caused on this precious life.
I am so overwhelmed with all the animals in need.. I had to unsubscribe to some of the links on my FB page because I am spending too much time upset.....
I went on yours and Karen's word and I already donated...I wish it could have been more but it is something.
Thank you Jennifer! It is so generous of you to share your limited income for this guy. I know Judy and the rescue appreciate every donation they receive.
I got a thank you letter from Judy.. How sweet.
I was wondering if you had a link for more information, I can't see a picture of the dog or the name of the vet or anything. I am SO< SO limited on money that I have to make sure things are legit, I am sorry.. Do you have more info or am I missing something?
Dixon Animal Protection Society is a legitimate registered 501c3 not-for-profit: http://dixon-animal-protection-society.idilogic.aidpage.com/dixon-a...
I could not find a website for them, but all donations are tax deductible.
Thanks for posting this to try to help Keller, Diana. The area that the rescye serves is a very low income area, so I'm sure they can use all the help they can get.
thank you for clarifying Karen.. I am so sorry for double checking.. I will gladly do what I can...
I am happy to do my part. I hope Keller gets the surgery he needs and goes on to have a wonderful life. Thank you for telling us about him.
Thank you Laurie.
Here is more info on Keller from his foster:
Keller is a sweet JRT cross and is blind. One eye had to be removed due to an injury the other has cataracts then have been there for sometime. Had they been treated he might have sight. He is not totally blind though he does see shapes and does amazingly well in bright light. His elderly owner passed away and the owners family dumped him. Possibly not before abusing him. We had him neuter when they closed the bad eye and once healed I had him groomed. The groomer noticed his rear end was swollen and appeared to be full of fluid. I ran him back tot he vet and they diagnosed a bi-lateral perineal hernia. Very rare and generally only occurs in un-neutered males with stub tails. Keller has a very long and active tail so his butt muscles get a good workout. There is a link between testosterone and the deterioration of the butt muscles that hold the intestines in. So could be a combination of blunt trauma and being in-tact into middle age that caused the hernias, no way to know. The surgery has to be done as two separate surgeries with recovery in between and $2000 per side. We decided that $4000 was just too much, neither rescue involved has that kind of funds. So we were going to put him down. I cried for abut 6 hours but knew it was the right choice. He can't live with the hernias because eventually his bladder will also pop through and that will be fatal and very painful. I called today to schedule the euthanasia and the Vet said no. She said we should do one side and see and she cut her fees. I set the Chipin at $2000 as an estimate. Might be on the high side but we won't know until we get there. This particular vet donates a lot of services so we'll pay her what we receive. Thanks so much!! Everyone who meet this sweet boy falls in love with him. He is a wonderful boy.

Thank you Andrea. I know that every donation is so greatly appreciated. His foster (her name is Judy) has just recently lost 2 of her dogs and it was killing her to have to consider euthanizing this foster. We are all pulling for Keller to have many more happy years ahead of him.
