My doodles do it too, but my German shorthaired pointers used to do it on a regular basis. There were three of them and after about 15 minutes, they would rotate to another's bone. Too funny. Sometimes they would share a bone, one would hold it, while the other one chewed. Here's Holly on rt, holding it for Casey of left.
I never had a problem with the GSP's they were half sisters. My doods did it with my daughter's lab, but I don't know about a strange dog they don't know.
One of my dogs eats inside and the other outside. They have always done this and it is on two sides of a sliding glass door. Frequently one of them wants to change sides and they each run to the other's bowl to see if there is anything interesting there. They also watch what is put into the other's bowl to make sure they get the same thing. If they are chewing on a bone or antler, they frequently switch, I think just to make sure the other dog doesn't have something different.
