Training Puppy to do #1 and # in the same area?

Hi Eveyone,

I'm new to puppydom and new to the site, I'm in need of your help.  I just picked up my F1B Labradoodle Curtis last Thursday evening - everything is going fine. I take him out to a grassy area we've created for him to pee and poop.  He's consistent on peeping there, but refuses to consistently poop in the same area; he sits down, and sometimes rolls over in the area (I can see in his beautiful eyes that he's telling me he does not want to poop there).  We've changed it from mulch,(which he plays in and gets his coat all mulched up) to grass.  Should we try pebbles?  Puppy kindergarten starts on 9/22/12, hoping to get some help before then.  This is the only issue I'm having, he is such a good pup and I can see that he is holding it when I pull him away from where I don't want him to go.

Sometimes a puppy will need to walk to get his bowels moving, is the area big enough that you can walk him around or back and forth until he goes.  When I was training my doodles I would walk up and down the side of my house until they went.  But sometimes they just needed to run around a bit to get things moving along - LOL.  When they did finally go pee or poop, while they were doing it I would say "good pee pee or good poopie", I did this so they would identify what I wanted them to do.  Sometimes people think just because you let the puppy outside he/she does not know that you want them to pee or poop you have to train them to do it.  So if my doodle was not going I would say "hurry up go poopies or peepees", it did help if they got distracted.  They caught on real quick what outside was for :)

I so agree with Barbara!  Our Doodle definitely needs to run a little bit, in fact she actually prances around the yard just before she goes and it works every time.  I have found this to be so easy with our Doodle and now she goes on command.  In the morning before we take her for a walk we take her outside and tell her go to poo poos and she looks up at us, does her little dance and goes.  They are so very smart and so love to please you!

Thank you Barbara...As I was saying to Marne, I'm just going to have him run where he wants to and just scoop.  After I sent out my SOS, I called the training school where he is going for puppy kindergarten on the 22nd, and she said just to let him do his business where he wants to for now and scoop.  We want out in the front yard and he pranced, and pranced and pooped several time.

So thank you all again.  I'm learning.

I tried getting my pup to poop in the same area but our yard is just too big and he is SO ADHD like myself that it was too difficult for him to concentrate on one area and one thing at a time.  So......I got a scooper and scoop his poop up every day instead.

Thank you Marnie...That's exactly right, we created a small grassy area off the deck, close to the sliding back door.  The yard is big, we have a Koi pond and my lay passion is gardening, so I have a beautiful garden.  We just had the yard terraced and sodded in early August.  I wanted him to do all his business in the small are but it's not working.  So, we're going to have to scoop the yard daily.
