Does your puppy like to be held?

We've had Oskar for almost 2 weeks now.  The first couple of days, he'd let me hold him & he'd fall asleep.

Now, when I can sense he's tired, I try to have him rest on my lap but he thrashes around until he gets away & goes & lays under a chair.

Our other doodle did the same thing when he was little & still isn't a snuggler.

I'm curious about other doodles :)

Hi Diane - Pink (my 4 mo ALabradoodle) likes to be held - although she's getting too big now :-).  Elvis usually not much of a snuggler and never has been.  He likes to be close (like on the couch) but not on my lap.

Wispa is very very snuggly.  I'm not sure whether it's nature or nurture, though.  We didn't seek out the cuddles too much, and we don't have any children to force cuddles upon our puppy.. Wispa has a variety of places she loves to sleep, we don't move her if she wants to sleep on the cool floor, or on the cosy cushions, or when she curls herself up with her head on my lap.

I can drag her up into my lap sometimes, but unless I'm actively giving her a belly rub or scratching behind her ears, she'll go back to what she was doing a few seconds earlier, as I had interrupted her!  I say let your dog come to you for snuggles, and when they do, praise them, rub their bellies, and they'll learn that it's a rewarding thing to do!

I agree with you, Emily.  Hurley prefers the bathroom floor or snuggling in the pillows on the bed during the day.  When he snuggles in the pillows I usually spend time petting and sort of massaging him.   He turns 9 months old this month and I have noticed over the past month that during the day when he naps he wants to lay down so that he is touching me.  Needless to say, I don't get much done during his nap because I don't want to move away from him when he is resting on my foot or leg.

No. :-( Sadly, my Finny is not a cuddler. When we first got him he was so mouthy you had to endure a part of your body in his mouth if you wanted to be near him. He's 8mo old now and not nearly as mouthy but he's still not much of a cuddler. He does follow me everywhere though. :-) I'm hoping as he ages he'll enjoy my hugs and kisses a little more.

Mine likes it when she is tired.  She loves to sit in my lap to play, too.  When she is ready to sleep, however, she is out of my lap and onto the fireplace (marble) or the kitchen floor.  Perhaps she prefers cold to warm laps?
