For those of us always asking the question: Should I fly my puppy? this is the reason I would never do it. I understand that it doesn't happen a high percentage of the time but I say why risk your puppy or dog in the percentage that does.
Very sad and the way it was handled is unforgivable.

Jennifer and Jack, what airlines was that that gave such good care. Id like to know.
Lisa, Great minds think alike. I just came on DK to post this same story. I know we had a heated discussion not long ago and the person that posted that discussion thought those of us who said we would never fly our dogs and felt it was unsafe were a bunch of naysayers and alarmists. (my words) I would never fly my dog anywhere. I don't care how many dogs fly safely, I am not taking the chance with mine.
I'm a no fly dog zone too and that's why I took a boat and drove hundreds of miles (23hour) round trip for Riley. I just couldn't take the risk. One loss is too many IMO. What a truly terrible thing to happen to that dog. My new breeder states that she won't ship puppies and that all prospective owners have to visit.
I agree sometimes it is necessary and thank goodness to the ones who had to that your babies got to you safe and sound. I chose a breeder close so I didn't have to think about that. My sister flew her 14 month old pup from Arizona to Michigan, he was a mess when he got there...so scared and it took days for him to be himself again.
I have to admit though I DO NOT fly. If we can't drive we don't go. And now that we have Daisy it's even more don't go-s. We did find out however on our recent trip to WI that Daisy is an excellent traveler, we were so proud. My idea of a dream trip is a 5th wheel pick up and a trailer behind. 3 more years DONNA be prepared to see an OH license plate in that park nearby.
Stories like this one are the reason that Webber and I drove from East to West coast and back. There is no way I would put him in the hold of an airline, even if it was non-stop. It's just too scary and too many dogs die. it just isn't worth it.
I know many people do have their dogs flown to them without incident, but I firmly prefer to pick up my dog myself.
OMD
This has made me sick to my stomach. I am guilty of having a dog shipped twice in my life time. Never ever again. So sad!
Quincy was flown to us but at that time I was much less wiser than I am now( I didn't have DK then). I don't think I would be willing to take that risk now, which means that unless a doodle that is already in Newfoundland needs a new home Quincy will remain an only child. Of course Lisa could always bring me one when she comes to visit in her new RV,unless I talk DH into an RV myself.
:-)
Awful, horrible... makes me so angry!!!!!!!! My heart breaks for the poor dog and the owners. It disgusts me to read how the airline handled this.
