Musings About the Calendar

This post is not about me or any known DK member. Just musings as the midnight hour of the calendar deadline approaches at least here in the East. What if you are a world class photographer? But you have a unattractive less attractive doodle.We could ask the question, are there any such things? Aren't all doodles attractive? Especially to the people who love them. Should your doodle be in the calendar? Great picture, sharp, clear, gorgeous setting. Ordinary doodle. But then in the hands of a great photographer the soulfulness of a doodle's eyes comes through doesn't it? What if you have a spectacular doodle. But you are not at all a photographer?

Needless to say all the calendar submission preoccupation has gotten to me. Should I have carried a brush and camera around a lot? Should I have bothered the doodles so much? Aren't they dogs and entitled to be messy? I have seen some fabulous pictures of wet doodles though. But then the dogs did get dried liver treats for today's last minute shoots. Maybe they thought it was worth it all. At least I don't force them into costumes : ) But at times it reminds me of the Westminster Kennel Club and the backstage primping that seems insane to me.

Can anybody capture with a camera the love you feel when you look at your dog? Any thoughts?

Darn Darn Darn, I had a few photos taken recently in the appropriate formatting and I was having friends on FB poll their favorite for a submission then went home Friday to find Josie my "mystery" doodle with a huge welt on her side (picture a bagel cut in half and stuffed under the skin), vet next day and it seems its comperable to a blood blister on us (she was either hit or hit something) I clearly remember Sassparilla body slamming her last week when playing.  Anywho, all that excitement over the week, and in addition our internet was down I didn't get the last shot in!  Maybe next year I guess?  If you find you need more I have a few recent good ones!

First of all, I have never forced my dogs to wear costumes. They bring them to me to put on them :) One evening, my DD and I were feverishly working on calendar photos and Vern was sitting next to us reminding us with his huge paw that he did not like being ignored. I told my DD something was wrong with this picture...we were ignoring Vern to focus on Vern's picture. I did not feel as stressed this year as I did last year. I can't help being a competitive person and even the hunt of a Beanie Baby caused me to go overboard :) I think, just like your kids, the pictures mean more to you than anybody else and you see only perfection when you look at them. It is human nature.

Who accused you of forcing your dogs into costumes. A case of spontaneous denial if ever I heard one, always suspect. I do think it's true about what we see in our own dogs photos. But I to stressed much less this year. I do feel that sometimes you can ignore someone or somedog for things that in reality are not that important.

I know all of you know the love I feel for my doodle and I you...when I look at Daisy I think Happy happy joy joy. I am not a photographer but I do know this, on the heels of this weekend DH and I had discussions about new cameras, photography classes and high hopes for the one photo submitted with the help of one fantastic Utah Photographer who we all know and love...

Thanks to all of you for your ideas, critiques and hopefulness. Good Luck to All and whether or not we make the calendar we all know our doodles are the be prettiest, fastest, sweetest AND the most photogenic of all.

In the end it truly doesn't matter if my Daisy is in the calendar because I have her to cherish every single day in 3D.
