Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My mini doodle, Hank, is 12 weeks.  He stays outside in the courtyard during the day and only comes in at night to sleep in his crate.  He likes being outside where he can run and play which seems normal to me.  I was raised with outside dogs.  Hank is my first puppy on my own.  At first, I thought I would try to keep him inside, but the potty training got to be too much for me since I have a mobility impairment, and my reaction time is slower than normal.  He has never had an accident in his crate, doesn't cry at night, or need a potty break in the middle of the night.  Please don't think I'm a horrible person.  I love Hank as much as an inside dog owner.  Just wonder if anyone else has an all or primarily outside doodle?  Does anyone's doodle sleep outside?  If so, how does that work out for you?  Basically, I think I have one good puppy!  Just want to make things as happy for him (and me) as possible.  Thanks for any feedback or insight you have to share.  Hope I don't end up feeling guilty about considering having him sleep outside.  I really do love my puppy.  Honest.  I do.

Thanks, Cheryl, for pointing me in the right direction.

I would be so tempted to break in to that yard and take that dog and drive it out of state to a rescue...yes its against the law but some laws need to be broken.

Vivian, I am going to do what Cheryl says and see what happens!  This is why this subject is a hot topic for me.

Good idea Laurie, what I said was a last resort and the state really should step in and do the right thing.

Oh Laurie, this is heartbreaking and awful and if that isn't abuse, then what the he** is it?

Thanks, Donna! I agree.

This looks awful.

No dog should have to live like that and no one should have to look at that. Screw the county -Here's another couple of ideas --call Robin Adams at DVGRR: she might have an idea of an agency or a state law that could help you legally;  does the Humane Society have local chapters? Send the photo. My last idea before you break in and take the dogs - You are a great writer -- write an article for the local paper, with the picture, and ask why Animal Control can't do anything?  You couldn't keep a dog chained like this in my township --I don't know about the county. We got the guy across the road  to bring the dogs in or lose them because they were barking all the time and there's an ordinance against that.

Sick, you must be heartbroken all of the time. I would not be able to look in that direction but obviously I would, every day, to see if anything has changed.

Have you tried that one organization Dogs Deserve Better?

I just looked at their FB page and I see you are a friend....did they have any suggestions? I can't believe they would ignore that photo.

That's definitely sad.

Many of us who answered have taken in dogs who have been alone outside, caged for life, neglected, not vetted, bred to death.  I have.  Many of us did answer the post and hope not the same for this dog.  I think that was were I was coming from.

I understand where you are coming from, but I also wanted to help a woman who only saw a dog's life as outside. I was hoping we could help her find the other side.

I think she would have LOVED this life we all have. I think she was looking for help.  Not criticisms.  She got both.  But that happens.  You take the best and leave the rest.

Good point, Joanne.
