Great. First a recall on their dog peanut butter, and now the human kind. Is anything safe any more? Thanks for posting, Anne.
Not much is the answer.
I think the safest peanut butter and the best is the fresh ground...some stores have a bin of roasted and unsalted peanuts that you put into a grinder and into the containers. There are no natural or artificial sweeteners, oil or stabilizing agents to keep the oil emulsified into the product just peanuts. I love the stuff and so does my doodle.
Fortunately, I hate peanut butter, because I would never go to that much trouble, lol. My kids didn't get peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, either. Not a complete protein, and about as high in fat and calories as any food could possibly be. But I know a lot of people like it.
Karen I prefer almond butter and make it in my Vitamix in seconds. Its rich in protein and other nutrients and low in saturated fat.
Nuts don't contain complete proteins, though. They are missing one or more essential amino acids, as are all forms of plant protein. They can certainly be part of a healthy diet, but they are extremely high in fat, although it is unsaturated fat. In fact ounce for ounce, there isn't anything more caloric than nuts other than pure fat, like lard. I love nuts by themselves, as a snack, but I just don't care for nut butters.
i dont like peanut butter either and stopped giving it to Zoe and Ben because Zoe's teeth started getting really gross. Her teeth are better now =) I wonder if anyone else has problems with their doods teeth and peanut butter
I haven't given peanut butter to the the doodles for a long time. But peanut butter certainly can stick to things which can't be good for teeth. I stopped giving the doodles Craisins for that reason.
Just when I was feeling smug that I used human peanut butter. Luckily those aren't my brands. Whew....
I make my own.
