Hi Friends,
I'm writing to ask if anyone has had any experience with their dog having a reaction to a vaccine that resulted in a lump at the site of the injection. I am asking because my four-month-old puppy, Charlotte, developed a mass that feels like it's the size of a grape, where I believe she received her Rabies vaccination. I noticed it several days after she received the shot, and now a week later, it hasn't reduced in size. In fact, the skin looks a bit red today, where it was flesh-toned earlier. It does not seem to bother her, but it's troubling me, so I'm taking her to the veterinarian in a couple of hours. I'm hoping that she'll tell me that it's a non-dangerous response to the vaccine. If you have any knowledge about this type of adverse response, please share it with me.
Thanks,
Laurie

Luna has had these lumps once or twice - we called the vet about it, they said it typically goes away in a few days to a week. It went away within 3-4 days, no biggie!
A couple of years ago, my Chase developed a hot red lump on thigh after having his vaccinations. The hair then fell out leaving him with a penny sized bald spot! His hair did eventualy grow back, but it grew in a different colour! The vet told us it was most likely due to the needle not going in where it should have - under the skin instead of into the muscle or something. This year he was fine!
I read about the possibility of that happening, and our vet told so, as well. She said that it tends to occur in white-colored dogs; and in fact, they vaccinate show dogs in spots which aren't very visible for just that reason.
Do you remember how long after the vaccination the lump receded and Chase's hair fell out?
