Three weeks ago I posted about Quincy and an abscess he had on his head that caused us a major amount of concern, two weeks prior to that he had to see the vet because his eyelid was very swollen and inflamed. We just finished 3 weeks of antibiotics and having the abscess drained twice and then yesterday we noticed this. There is also a spot on his lower lip and it seems to be getting bigger.

I have taken him to the vet again who diagnosed it as an allergy and he is now on prednisone and another 10 days of antibiotics. Has anyone ever experienced this? I know Joanne has something similar with Spud's lip but put it down to friction from the large ball he was playing with. Quincy hasn't been doing anything different and there haven't been any changes in his diet. The only thing I can think of is that on Monday he got ahold of a pressure treated garden stake that he stole out of my flower bed but he only had it for a few seconds. I don't really know what to think. :<(

UPDATE;  It's been five days and whatever the mystery ailment is, it is slowly getting better, I don't know if it's because of the meds or in spite of them but it's is getting better and that's what matters. It actually looked a little worse for a couple of days, not bigger but it seemed to have tiny blisters. We go back to the vet tomorrow for a recheck.  I have no new insights into what may have caused it but just to be on the safe side I did get rid of all the garder stakes today while I was cleaning out the flower beds, it may not be the culprit but I'm not willing to risk it. Thanks to all our friends for their ideas and well wishes, I hope our next discussion is not even remotely related to health issues.

This is a pic from today.

He charged the fence and ran up and down the fence line barking at a German Shepherd the other day, so I think his back must be feeling better, lol. Still won't/can't jump onto my bed, though. :-)

Good to hear that JD is feeling better even if he won't jump on the bed. Running the fence line is so much better than being in too much discomfort to move. It may be time for a little game of ball soon. >)

Give Quincy a big kiss from us. All of this posing must be exhausting. Poor boy.

Honestly, though, I am sorry he has something going on... that's for sure!

All I can add is my sympathy that you and Quincy are going through this confusion. I hope you are able to get straight answers soon. Please keep us posted.

Thanks Bonnie, I will let you all know how this turns out.

I hope the poor baby feels better fast!

Thanks Jennifer, I know you understand how the not knowing what is going on feels like.

Thanks Nurse Hattie, Quincy would like to know if she can make a house call. :>)

Does Quincy have hair loss too on the upper lip in the area of the pink spots? The spot on the lower lip looks so light, it makes me wonder if something is going on with the cells that make color...like vitiligo...but that shouldn't cause hair loss.

I think vitiligo comes on a little more gradually, I hope he's not trying to channel his inner Michael Jackson. :>)

Oh my, I just saw this.  I have never seen anything like this Donna.  Keeping my paws crossed it is nothing major.  Sending hugs your way.

Ah, was this like an overnight thing? You're right though...vitiligo usually occurs gradually. I definitely have seen rapidly progressive cases in humans...no idea if canine vitiligo can be rapid. Based on the picture though and the inside of the lower lip, it doesn't really look infectious. Hope you get some answers or that things turn around!
