Yay! I have not even unpacked it yet and I'm making a list of yummies for my doodles: sweet potatoes, chicken jerky, bananas, apples... What else do you dehydrate? I'm sure there is a recipe book in the box, but I just wanted to check with our DK dehydrator experts.
As for the jerky, some say pre-cook the meat and some say don't. Which way do you prefer?
I used to buy duck jerky for Monty at Costco until I realized it was made in China. He loved it. I hope my home-made jerky will taste so much better to him. I know it will be healthier!

That's a great idea, I will try that with a couple of sweet potatoes the next time. My sweet potatoes were quite thin and crispy, but it seems that they don't get digested at all since they all come in pieces through the other end the next day. Little Auggie does like dried bananas, though and I have not seen pieces of those the next day.
Sue, you have time for making treats, lol. We recommend that you do not change anything about your puppy's diet for the first two weeks after she comes home. Stay with whatever food & treats the breeder is feeding, even if it's not the best. So you have time to research dehydrator treats and maybe make some for yourself as an experiment!
We bought a dehydrator back in probably May. I was doing chicken and sweet potatoes right up until Lucy tore her CCL and both girls got in trouble for being overweight when we took Lucy to the Ortho. So, it is now in the cabinet taking up space. They get very few treats these days.
