Sedona's been "dribbling" a bit lately.
Some background: She was an "early spay"(spayed by the breeder's vet before we brought her home). She's always had a tendency toward "happy pee", but she's much better about that than when she was a puppy.
Her "dribbling" tends to come and go. About the time we're thinking she needs to see the vet, we stop seeing the evidence. When it happens, we notice a wet spot where she'd been laying - sometimes just a little, sometimes a bit more, but never like she's actually peed.
Yesterday, we took her to the vet. She suspected a UTI. Apparently Sedona has a "little pee-pee" and a flap of skin in the area that can collect bacteria, so an infection seemed like a good call. However, the urine came back clean, so now the vet is suspecting "spay incontinence". One possible treatment for that is a drug called Proin. Does anyone have experience with this drug? I'd appreciate any and all input!

I'm sorry to hear Sedona is having this problem.
Sandy's Hattie is/was on Proin. I know she posted a few discussions about it. Hopefully she will chime in here.
Thanks, Karen. If she doesn't respond here, I'll send her a PM.
I am so sorry you and Sedona are going through this. It am flabbergasted that a vet and breeder thought that would be good for her!!
I will be very interested in this information. My Charli, 3 years old, was supposedly 9.5 weeks old when I adopted her (I truly believe she was younger). Her spay incision was healed and her hair was growing back already. She is 3 and so far no incontinence, no dribbles but the chance is great that she will be.
When we got Sedona, we hadn't yet discovered DK. We did question the breeder regarding ESN and she gave us literature from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (which is in the breeder's home town) that talked of its safety and benefits. Our vet at the time also questioned the ESN, but by then it was too late to do anything about it.
Our lab went on Proin when he was maybe 9 years old...it works by strengthening the sphincter...once he went on it, no more problems & no side effects we were aware of. It's much less expensive if you buy it online. Good luck :)
Thanks, Diane. Nice to hear of your lab's success with Proin. Gives me hope.
Deanna, I'm sorry to hear this. Guinness was also an early neuter....I hadn't heard of this possible side effect. Hope you find an answer that will clear this up for Sedona.
Incontinence from ESN is usually a female problem.
Thanks, Jane. Fortunately, her dribbling is a nuisance but it's definitely not a major issue like some people have had to deal with.
I hope Sandy of Sandy and Hattie chimes in on this discussion. Oops...I see Karen already has this covered. Good luck, Deanna.
Thanks for the info, Sandy. Glad to know that others have had fairly good success with Proin. We'll probably be giving it a try. Fingers crossed that it works well for Sedona, with no big side effects.
Bella had this problem up until about 8 months. They put her on Proin but it was not doing anything. They told me they might have to go in and push open the vulva if it doesnt develop correctly. Finally she grew out of it and no more dribbling of pee. I am not sure how old Sedona is, but if she is still young, she may grow out of it.
