LiliBear and I did ok with the storm out in Owings Mills Maryland.  Several days off from work.  We are wondering what we can do to help other doodle owners.  LiliBear always enjoys company.  ~Leslie

The latest update on my outage:

Estimated Restoration Time: Damage Assessment in Progress
Reported Problem: Pole(s) involved, Tree(s) involved, Wires involved

In other words no news at all really.

: (       Hoping things happen soon F.      My MIL is on Long Island.....no phone, no power.   I've been calling for days and nothing.   Thankfully, she has wonderful neighbors so we know she's in good hands....but it is a worry.

Thanks Carol. I know it's so hard to be out of contact too.

I'm sorry, Carol. That is such a worry! I hope you hear from her soon.

I hope you hear soon, Carol. Waiting is hard.

Ditto this!

Carol - where is MIL??? My step mother lives in Long Beach - mandatory evacuation. She was on a trip though China (the one thing my Dad on his bucket list that he never got a chance to do so she went by herself. she promised him) for the past 3 weeks. She is coming back to US today. I don't know if she has a home to go to!!!!

OMG Adrianne.....I hope she finds her home in good condition.  Imagine that, her going on such an adventurous trip alone!  She must be quite a woman.  What a sad way to conclude a trip of a lifetime.  : ( Please let me know how she makes out.

MIL lives in Kings Park....I worried for her all night last night as the temps got so low.  The phone company recently switched her over to FIOS and so whenever there is a power loss she loses phone as well.  There's no cell reception at her house, she needs to drive up the street to make cell calls.  So many people affected in so many ways.     Praying today brings more power for more people.

I hate all these new fangled phone systems. I'm beginning to think we all should have one land line of the old fashioned variety. Then maybe something would work. My FIOS, phone , internet and TV all worked throughout this ordeal off my generator. I didn't even think it strange for two days. Then I wondered how, if all the electric lines were down, the FIOS lines stayed connected. No answer to that but I may just write a letter thanking them since I always write letters to complain : )

If I understand what my hubby is telling me about the FIOS (he works for Verizon), it sitll worked because it only needs for the power to be on at the central node (or something like that) and at your house.  It doesn't need any other power along the way because it goes along the glass fiber.  One of the benefits of new technology!  I know they would really appreciate hearing a thank you at this time.  They are doing the best they can to get all the cell, FIOS and phone services back on line.

It's not the power that has me wondering. It's that the glass fiber lines stayed connected when all the power lines were ripped down : )

Here is my email to Lowell McAdam, who I hope is still the CEO.

Dear Mr. McAdam,
I have written to you in the past with a complaint. I thought it was important to tell you how amazed I was when my Verizon FIOS service remained on for the week without power following Hurricane Sandy. I have a backup generator but I really am amazed that the FIOS lines stayed up and connected. All my services, internet, TV and phone were fine. I am truly grateful I was able to stay connected. Thank you for this fine performance.
