They are right in the worst area and probably evacuated. I believe Charlotte lives near the tip of Manhattan. And Shelly is on Long Island, also hard hit in places.

Things are still in bad shape here in NJ. It is nearly impossible to find gasoline even in North Jersey. If you are lucky enough to find a gas station the wait is 2 - 3 hours long. We are still without power, phone, cable or Internet. As of this evening, there were still almost a million customers without power in NJ alone, I hear that trucks are coming in from out of state. I watched some news at a friends house tonight and was once again reminded that no matter how long I go without power, I am soooooo fortunate.
Cell phone coverage is a bit spotty, so many may still be out of reach. After a storm surge this evening, 300k gallons of diesel file spilled into the Arthur Kill near Staten Isand. Clean up efforts are underway there as well. There are multiple fires still burning.

Strange but my Fios has been working even though the electric is out so I have phone , internet and TV. I spoke with a utility worker in a bucket truck from the Bronx today. I was excited to see him but he was just assessinng damage. But I do feel very lucky. The stories and pictures are unbelivable.

Verizon sent out an email indicating that those of us with Fios will have access to about 8 hours of the battery back up system that is installed in your house. ~Leslie

Mine didn't work. I'll have to have a chat with Verizon once things calm down.
