Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Sam is almost 6 months old. For the last couple of weeks his hair has been crazy! I brush him everyday and hair flies off of him and I get tons in the brush. He seems to be leaving hair balls on the carpet and furniture as well. I am some what of a clean freak and I find too much of my day consumed with picking up hair! I'm not really sure what to classify his hair as, but it isn't super curly, but not straight either. His hair is wavy close to his skin and just very fluffy the rest of the way out. I'm not sure if he is a shedder, molting, or losing his puppy coat? Any advise on grooming tools or anything else would be great!!

Brush Variety:
There are two Les Poochs brush varieties available for your Labradoodle:
The Les Poochs Green brush is used most often for routine coat maintenance and dematting. This brush variety has a medium-soft flex and it is equipped with dematting bristles on both sides of the brush head. This brush is recommended for coat lengths shorter than 4-inches.

The Les Poochs Purple brush is recommended when the coat length is 4-inches or longer. The Purple brush has a firm-flex brush head for penetrating the thicker coat, and it is also equipped with dematting bristles on both sides of the brush head.

Brush Size:

The Les Poochs brushes are available in two sizes (Regular and Wide).

The Regular size is recommended for Labradoodles weighing less than 40-pounds. This size is also handy for brushing the narrow contours, ears, legs and tail.

The Wide size is convenient for Labradoodles weighing 40-pounds or more.

He's probably going through his coat change.  Getting his hair cut very short or shaved to get rid of the puppy coat is probably the only way to get rid of the flying fur.  You probably won't know if he's a shedder until his adult coat comes in.  If he has wavy fur, he's probably less likely to be a shedder.
