My little Lord Wellington is 11 weeks old and has just started humping me over the past few days. With my previous dog it was easy to just step forward and ignore her to discourage this behavior, but Lord does this thing where he wraps all 4 legs around my leg and won't let go! He has such a tight grip on me I can lift my leg with him still attached. When I remove him he will bite my hand and jump right back up. I have to admit, it's getting pretty embarrassing since he likes doing this out in public when I take him to the park. I never had a puppy before, so is this normal? Does anyone have any tips on how to discourage it?

I believe there are people out there with anger issues that knee their dogs so hard they inure them,  I have meet people who knee their dog down and have friends who have stopped their dogs from jumping by lifting their knee but I have never meet anyone who actually did it hard enough or frequent enough to actually cause serious injury.  That would be like a parent smacking their kids hands so hard and often they broke their hands instead a light tough and saying no.  But I will just agree to disagree.

I am 5ft tall and was a 115lbs at the time. Smaller than the dog. You are a large man, think of what you can do to a 50lb puppy.  The puppy in this post is only 11weeks old.  Tiny.

I am not trying to fight with you. I am asking you to rethink your position and the advice you have given to this new dog owner.  That's all.  Thank you for listening

A Squirt bottle works.

Give the No Command in a FIRM VOICE.  And squirt.

Diana,

Why are you taking this puppy to the park?  Please be careful until all immunizations have been completed to take him anywhere.  Until Parvo is out of the picture, this IS dangerous.

And maybe by then, this humping issue will be long gone  also.  16 weeks is the norm for parks

Get the squirt bottle and start training and keep him safe until all the shots are safely behind you. Good luck and keep us informed.

That's great you can get him out and play in such a nice environment where everyone is on board with healthy happy dogs interacting. Lucky you.  Your dog, looks a lot like I dog I used to have. LOVE
