Does anyone go to a holistic/natural vet in the Bay Area? Linus, my 4 month old goldendoodle, has been going to Irving Pet Hospital and I am consistently leaving unsatisfied. They are very focused on selling the products that they carry in their office and pushing prescriptions on to Linus.
We visited them today because Linus has been having loose stool. He had to be treated for Giardia right after we picked him up from the breeder's a month ago and I went in to have his stool retested. The vet told us (before ever testing the stool) that Linus needed to go on an antibiotic (for intestinal bacteria, not parasites), as well as a Purina made probiotic. When I told the vet that I wasn't interested in putting Linus on an antibiotic until we knew if he actually had an infection, he did seem very supportive. I also told him that we had a digestive aid from Honest Kitchen that we wanted to try before we put him on anything from Purina. He had never heard of Honest Kitchen, and after we explained that they were a raw dog food company, he told us that he didn't trust raw food companies and blah, blah, blah. When I went to check out, I had been charged $30+ for the stupid Purina probiotic anyways! UGH!
Moral of the story, our vet isn't working for us. I am desperate to find a vet with a more natural approach to my dog's health. Any suggestions?

Hi Holly, I take my dog to a dr on West Portal. It is called Healthy Pets Hospital. The doctor there is definitely into alternative food/etc. His name is Dr Adam. My dog had very loose and bloody stools for days. He gave me a strong probiotic and had me change her food to a different brand of grain free food. If you want to cook for your dog he will help you with that. I changed vets because I had been going to Mission Pet. Everytime I went there I saw a different dr. I wanted to go to a vet who knew (or would get to know) my dog. Dr. Adam spent quite a bit of time w/me and Sadie. And, his office called about 2 days after our appt to see if she was getting better (she was)

If you're not opposed to going to the East Bay -- Dr. Gary Richter at http://www.HolisticVetCare.com and also at http://www.montclairvethospital.com is very thoughtful and has many alternative products and solutions to pet care. Can't say enough good things about him!
