Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

With the holidays approaching I am looking for non-destructable chew toys (or toys to play with) for my mouthy doodle.

My doodle guy loves toys but they are destroyed within minutes and the squeakers and everything else in his tummy.  I seem to be limited to an indestructable Kong which has been through 3 German shepherds and still remains in tact.  He does like antlers and that has worked but even the other toys with ropes attached are shredded.

My last dog was an English Setter and he was so careful with his toys which he would carry around and he would even use the larger ones for a pillow.

Wally's absolute favorite and longest-owned toy is a deflated leather football.  We keep it outside and have had it for several years.  It's not a chew toy-perse, but I thought I'd include it here, in case anyone is looking for a very durable fetch toy.

that actually makes sense--longer lasting than most fetch toys--

I have to distract mine from sticks which aren't very durable in his mouth.

My Sassparilla has pretty much destroyed everything that has gone into her mouth except the kong whistler balls (comes in blue, orange and glow in the dark), she can squish them and make the pop in her mouth but they don't fall apart. As she is getting older she LOVES stuffed toys and I find the goodwill recycled ones to work great she won't shred them but carries them around everywhere she goes (no squeaker so no issue). Her latest is the bubba gump shrimp, we even toss and fetch it. Her all time favorite that has been toss around is a beanie there's something about the republican elephant? She will climb walls to get it? She scaled the bathroom counter two nights ago to get to it, I'd forgotten I'd put it up there?

Those stuffless toys have done well too, as long as there is no tug-a-war going on.

She doesn't "de-stuff" them?  or pull out the stuffing and eat it?

The stuffless ones I have seen have the "fur" or other stuff he gets out of them--and then there is the squeakers--

Meg's current favorite is Kong's Wubba, she loves to make it squeak and she shakes it like crazy.  However I just looked at it and see where she has been working on the seams a bit, not sure how much longer before she ruins it.  Lots of good ideas here to check out...gonna go check now.

Wubba lasted awhile here, but I had the same problem--he actually got ahold of one of legs and did major damage, so it had to be cut off.

Finnley loves her Kong Wubba rabbit ! She also likes her hard rubber Hurley toys. Lucklie she isn't a toy destroyer. She saves that for any paper product she can get her mouth on ! LOL

yeah, major issue with paper--all my dogs have loved kleenex and paper towels, but he doesn't care what it is if he sees it he's got it and it's history-especially if I'm in another room.  he's quite good at shredding too.  I find that the doodles are extremely fast at stealing and very clever at figuring out how to get at something.

Oh dear Bonnie, a Wubba amputee, how sad....  I hear you about the paper shredding. They are stealth when it happens. I never knew that toilet paper could shred to such fluffy tiny confetti pieces !

The JW Cuz toys are fun and hold up pretty good.  They come in 3 sizes and they squeak.

One of my doodles loves toys and the other could care less.  Whenever Harpo comes up to greet someone, he carries a toy in his mouth.  He sometimes takes them outside to go pee and puts them down but when you tell him to go get his toy, he runs right over to it and brings it back into the house.  Most of them are stuffed animals or hollow toys but I have found that the squeekers tend to make him want to get the squeeker out and he tears them up.  You might pass on the squeekers and get stuffed toys.  I like baby toys because I just throw them into the washer and they seem to keep cleaner.

We've had good luck with this brand--any of the toys that are 9/10 on their "tuff scale" hold up pretty well. We've started giving them as gifts to other dogs and for some reason they all seem to go nuts for them. Bonus: the ones with squeakers are tough to squeak, so you don't get the nonstop squeaking while they're playing. I have to take away the Kong toys with squeakers after a while because the squeaking drives me batty.
