How often would you recommend to deworm and what product would you recommend.

There are other dogs here playing with supervision and I haves a fenced in backyard.My other dogs never get worms.I am going to stop the dewormer.what kind of probiotics should I buy and will theykeep him from getting worms.I feed him yogourt everyday .

Will a stool sample show if there are worms.I think I might have to switch vets.

A stool sample should show worms if they are present for a while.

No, probiotics will not keep him from getting worms; the only way to do that is to make sure he is never exposed to the worm eggs, and that might be hard to do. The probiotics replace the good flora in the gut which is destroyed by the dewormers; they are to help keep his gut healthy.

You can try the plain unflavored yogurt or ask for a good probiotic at a local small, privately owned pet supply store.

I will continue with the yogourt and if I see any signs such as vomiting I will take him to another vet and see what they suggest .I should mention he likes to eat dirt I try to stop him but it is near impossible.I never let them out without me I am an over protective mother.I am scared that they will play to rough and get hurt.My other doodle is 10 months so playtime has to be monitored .

Heartworm meds are monthly...could the vet possibly mean THAT kind of monthly dewormer that covers heartworm and other worms?

No he wanted me to give him Sentinal which is a dewormer.

It is also used for heart worm but he didn't mention heart worm.

Oh, if it's Sentinel, that's a different situation than giving dewormers specifically to prevent intestinal worms. Most of us give our dogs monthly heartworm and flea preventatives. If that's what you mean by your vet recommending dewormers, just using Sentinel monthly, that makes sense. You have to give something every month for heartworm anyway.

Do you have to treat for heartworm in the winter months in Nova Scotia.
