The consensus among animal behavior professionals is that the major cause of dog bites to humans is related to failure of owners and dog bite victims to recognize when dogs are fearful and know how to approach and greet dogs appropriately. But what exactly is the correct approach and why do so many people fail to do it?

Here is a poster. I had to download from her blog so if you can't see it, download it. Really is common sense if you see it through your doodles eyes.
Adrianne, Thank you for putting us in touch with informative behaviors we can share with others. I'm going to incase the poster in plastic and post it at the dog park.
Thanks for posting this Adrianne. The only way to reach people is to keep on putting it out there.
This is great information and makes so much sense. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for posting this, Adrianne. It's good to build awareness.
Thanks for sharing this Adrianne....great info and reminder for everyone.
Thank you for this information....it is so important and as mentioned could make a life or death difference in a dogs fate. I recently spoke to the owner of a dog that was returned to the breeder after almost 4 years. They were first time dog owners, 4 young children, nanny taking care of the dog during the day along with the fact that this was a dominant dog. I wanted to find out what the dogs issues were and it ended up being one of the saddest conversations I've experienced in a long time. This dog has biting issues with children. She put all of the blame on the dog and would not even consider the FACT that her children's behavior around the dog had anything to do with some of his issues. In addition, what really, really upset me the most (even though I felt I was already on the edge) was the fact that the family can't wait to get another dog! She even asked me if I knew anything about a certain breeder. I told her they were a puppy mill and that the dogs were aggressive.......actually, I wish I had said that but I was just in so much distress over the fact that they might be getting another dog I was just dumbfounded........: ( There is of course more to the story but that will have to be for another time.
This is really a wonderful way to present this information. The flyers should be handed out by shelters, rescues, etc. to every new dog owner.
