Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Several months back there was a discussion on the safety of toys and bowls for our Doodles. At that time I went on a mission to rid Hattie's toy box of lead based paint rubber toys from China, plastic bowls and unsafe dyes in soft toys. With a new puppy coming in January it was time to refresh the toy box so the baby would have some appropriate toys and Hattie could have a few new things for Christmas. Here are some of the new things I found and safe gifts for the holidays! Most everything came from Amazon unless I give a website address. I hope this helps at least a few people find safer toys for your fur babies this Christmas! If you have other ideas---throw them at us!

Also here is a link for safe toys and info about the manufacturer...

Thanks for compiling this list.  It can be tough to find toys not made in China.  I'm going to pick a couple from the list above for Halas for Christmas.

Most of JD's stuffed toys are made in China; it's extremely difficult to find any that aren't. They are safe as long as you don't have a dog who eats the materials. You can machine wash them before giving them to the dog if you are concerned, but stuffed toys aren't painted so there's no worry about lead or other toxic materials. It's just fabric, and almost all of our clothes, towels, and other soft goods are made in the Far East, too. (Go check the labels if you don't think so.)

JD doesn't rip or shred his soft toys, and he doesn't eat anything that isn't food. So for catching and chomping (he likes to make them grunt and squeak), Most of the stuffed toys made in China are okay.

Yes, I would not recommend any stuffed toys for dogs who shred them or do more than bite down on them without tearing them. Even if the stuffed toys are made in the USA and don't contain anything harmful, strings, threads, pieces of fabric or synthetic fur can cause horrible stomach problems, including an obstruction requiring surgery, and/or damage to the GI tract.

If we get too carried away with all the toys and chews that can be harmful the dogs will die of boredom.

My boys are getting Fiesta Bowls for Christmas.  They aren't excited but I am.  Thank you Karen, for introducing me to one more expensive thing I didn't know I needed :)

I'm always glad to do my part for the US economy, lol!

That's why I made my comment about the stuffed toys from China being okay. I would not buy them from places like Walmart, but the ones that JD has have been just fine. Things like Hide a Squirrels, etc.

Thanks Sandy, I needed this! Hope to find something fun this weekend and be done with the search.

Sandy ~ great list.  Thanks for making my doodle christmas shopping a piece of cake!

Happy holidays!
