Hi everyone!! Well....my Jackson is now is now 20 months old! Where does the time fly?? It's been over a year since I've been logged onto, this wonderful site...just a lot of "stuff" going on in my life! Hope those of you on my friend list are are all doing well as your furry family members. Just wondering if anyone has any good advice on pet insurance. Something I should have done quite awhile ago but plan to have Jackson signed up within this month. I have done a bit of research but find it all so confusing with reviews constantly contradicting one another. Any suggestions any of you may have would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I hope to be a more current member here, will upload a more current photo,of Jackaon...and wish a Happy and Healthy New Year to all!

Hi and welcome back. You might want to search for pet insurance, we've had a lot of discussions. Also, I recommend this website: http://petinsurancereview.com/dog.asp

We are using Healthy Paws and I know a lot of people here have Pet Plan.

Hi Gayle.  We use VPI's Care Guard Core, and have added on their Major Medical option.  It has always paid for itself.

If you Google Doodle Kisses and Pet Insurance you'll see lots of great discussions about Pet Insurance.  I'm a huge fan and I carry Pet Plan.

Hi Gayle, welcome back.  How is Jackson?  I am using Healthy Paws and have been happy with them but you should check out the discussions.

We have researched the different insurances out there and it looks like our decision for us will be with Healthy Paws for our Stewie!  He is only 7 months old (yes time does fly) but we think we need to buy it soon just in case we ever need it since he is still young pup and accidents can happen (but hope they never do)!  Good luck with your insurance decisions.... don't know if my input helped at all!?! :)

I think that probably the person that has used their insurance more than anyone else would be for little Rusty out in CA.  He has cancer and had one of his legs removed.  He is nearing the 3 year mark in treatment and I believe his Dad said PetPlan has reimbursed him something like $25,000 in pet bills  He has had no complaints whatsoever with PetPlan during the time.  The problem with someone saying you should go with "XXXX" insurance is that most plans have pick and choose options for what works the best for you personally to fit your budget.  You can have a large deductible to keep the cost down or a small one that makes the cost higher.  You can have 100% pay or 80% pay.  Some cover genetic issues, some don't.  There is a lot of good discussions with specific examples of how it was used here on DK.  So, just take a little time and read through them and you should have a better understanding of what will work with you.  Just off the top of my head the ones that stick out the most here on DK are:  Embrace, VPI, PetPlan and HealthyPaws is starting to make an appearance as they are fairly new.  Just remember to look for some discount options for whatever plan you choose.
