DH and I are lost as to what to do about our 3 1/2 year old pups recurrent UTIs. She's been getting one every 2-3 months, she'll be fine one day, and the next day she has blood in her urine. The Vet is trying to talk us in to changing  to a food that prevents kidney stones, but she's never had kidney stones.

She's let out at 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. sometimes more. She never has to go more than 9 hours. She always has plenty of water, and we've been putting cranberry powder on her food every day for 6 months. Any suggestions would be great, thanks everyone!

Ok never mind, just found lots of good info in the Health and medical issues group.

Nine hours as a regular thing seems a long time to me. Stasis of course is one cause of UTIs.

Nine hours is okay during a resting period (for example overnight) but I don't think we go more that two or three hours without sending Gavin outside when we are home.  That could be the problem.

I think 8:00 - 5:00 is too long to go without a potty break.  Is there nobody at home to let her out?  Is there someone who can let her out in the middle of the day?
