Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My Chase is 4 years old, he is a neutered male.  On a couple of occasions recently I have noticed that he has peed in his sleep.  Not a whole pee, just a small amount.  Has anyone else had this happen with their doodle?  I did a search but all the other discussions seemed to refer to puppies.

Also, he is a multigen non-shedding doodle with a mostly curly coat.  I have noticed recently that he has got patches where his coat has gotten really thin and wispy, you can almost see his skin through and his skin appears to be quite dry.  (We do heat with wood in the wnter which does dry your skin out).  But, I find it strange that this is only occuring in patches.  Any ideas??

I don't know if this coat change is related to his peeing in his sleep or not, but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Thanks guys.

Stella, I would take him in to the vet for a exam and blood work. I wouldn't presume to try to guess what might be causing these issues, or whether they are related, but some of them can be related to endocrine and/or hormonal imbalances. I hope there is nothing serious wrong.

I was just there the other day too!!  He split one of his toe nails and we had to get the vet to cut it back because I'm not brave enough!  I didn't think to mention it then because it is a couple of weeks since it last happened.  But, I noticed this evening he did a little pee in his sleep again.  I initally thought his coat was just dry because it is winter, & that is why I asked about the EPO and fish oil.  But, now I'm over thinking and wondering if they are related .... or not!!  I'll have to see if I can get him another appointment.

He is behaving like his normal crazy self, eating and pooping fine!!

Where are the patches of hair loss located on his body?

The worst area is either side of his spine, just above where his pelvis starts, and I've noticed also over his ribcage area too but not as bad there.

That's not from dry skin. I would discuss both the hair loss and the urination with the vet, and have the vet see him.

Please keep us posted.  I have a dog (not a doodle) that we are in the process of getting a diagnosis for, so I know how worried you must be. Like Chase, one of his symptoms is hair loss on the back and sides - saddle area. (No other symptoms are similar to Chase's.)

Best thoughts for you and Chase.  Keep us posted Stella.

I have no advice, but I hope the vet can give you some answers.

Thanks for all of your thoughts guys. I'm going to take him to the vet. Haven't had time to get back on the Internet to thank you for your suggestions.

Chase went to the vet today.  I couldn't get an appintment to take him myself, do DH who is home this week took him.  I gave him a whole side of handwritten notes for the vet!  Luckily the vet has been a client of mine, so she knows me!!  They took blood and a urine sample.  Note to self - so pleased we trained him to pee on command, saved him the indignity and us the cost of being catherterised to get a sample.  The vet didn't think the two things were connected.  She said she'd call us in the next couple of days with the results.  The vet consult, bloodwork and urine test cost $325.00!!!

The gremlins are preventing me from replying in the right place.

I hope you get some clear answers, and whatever they find is something easily treated.  Please keep us posted.
