My son, husband and I play a game these days- is that Quincy's head or butt sticking out from behind the chair, bed etc? He is still so dark that it's not so easy to tell! His paws can look like his tail and vice versa. His hair is really long. I grazed at his brow after giving him a bath this weekend so he can see, but I am chicken to cut more. He is such a good boy when I shower him. He just sits there, then lays down as I hose him off in our walk in shower. I have acclimated him to my hair dryer since he was really little, but it takes forever. I have started to use the shop vac on blower- which he did not really like at first, ( I think mostly from the noise as he loves playing with the leaf blower) but with some help and holding from my son, he acquiesced, curled up in his favorite position and let us dry him much faster. I kept the motor part outside the door and just had the hose in the bathroom. I cannot believe the dirt that comes off - especially after we have him down to the beach. Much nicer having a clean boy in the bed!

My dogs played outside for a while, and when we called them back in, they were so dirty that we had to give them a bath! Well, the water was nearly black as they came out. I tried to blow dry them, which they hated, but it just took too long. So I let 'em airdry. I like your idea about keeping the machine out of the bathroom. I'll hafta try that. And I agree, it's much easier hugging a good smelling, sparkling pooch than a dirty one.
