My poor Meggie doodle was nothing but matts! I was working on her for 2 hours a day at least, I spoke to our breeder and she said it was proably because she was getting her adult coat and mixing in with her puppy coat. Never had a problem with matts before so I'm assuming that was it. I brought her to the groomer and she ended up pretty much shaving her down.....she has so fluff on the ears and tails and that's about it. My kids are calling her "rat dog" because she looks like a drowned rat now :( I put a sweater on her to keep her warm, but I think she's embarrassed....she keeps looking at me like "Mom, I know I don't look cute now".
Just curious on how long it takes for her coat to grow back in - did anyone else experience this issue with matts and have success after taking off the puppy coat?

OMG. Brinkley is Macie's clone. I dropped Macie (9 months) off at the groomers this morning. Despite constant brushing/combing I can no longer keep up with the matting. I'm so scared Macie will end up looking like the after pic, too! I need to have a good strong drink ready for me tonight! ;-)
Give her a few weeks. Groucho Too (my goldendoodle) has been shaved down a couple of times, most recently on his shoulder when he had laser surgery. Three weeks and the hair is back and not even a scar. We shaved the rest of his body with 6 mm clippers to sort of match. He was also shaved on his tail, stomach, face, and feet when he had a bad allergic reaction to anesthesia. That took a little longer to grow in so he looked like a doodle again. Their hair grows so rapidly and they seem to like the shaved down look. Groucho actually likes being shaved and will stand for grooming as long as you can keep it up. Try to keep from getting matts in the first place. If it is taking two hours a day to get her brushed out, something is wrong. Get a solution that will work for you.
