Wow!  I met someone here at DK who definitely thinks like me.  She does beautiful pet pictures by painting them with a Wacom tablet.  And she is so talented.  Found out on FB that she is offering high resolution digital files so you can have them printed anywhere.  We did the same thing with our remodeling last summer.  We took high res photos of our favorite places and printed them on canvas.  (We have a canvas printer.)  So, check her out.  She is on the Buy-Sell-Trade group, but even I had problems getting to her.  Her website is:   www.bellcreativegallery.com     Many of you have great photos that she could render into paintings.  I am learning to do the same thing in my Intro. to Digital Arts class but her talent is way beyond mine (at least at this point).  I will get there - one of my goals this year.

I have the medium tablet. I think the work area is about (rough estimate here) 6.5 x 8.5, which is a nice size, because I can fit my keyboard on the desk between the tablet and the monitor. Corel Painter 12 alone is normally $429. I think I paid around $650- $700 for the program and tablet. So at that price how can you resist? lol!

Oh man! So I would actually save money, right? Hmm, perhaps my DH does not need to know right away....

Uh oh.

Okay, I did it! You'll now get to receive all sorts of questions from me. :-)

SWEET! You can surprise him with a painting of Monty and Auggie - hehe!

Thanks for doing all  this research.  You have many of the same questions I have and I haven't done the research yet.  This definitely helps me.  So what did you decide?  The medium or the large tablet?

I got the medium one, Intuos5. If you know somebody that works for a school or a university, you could get the bundle with a great price on the website I mentioned.

I enjoyed reading all of the responses to this post--they played into what I am so hoping to do when I retire.  I have dabbled in acrylic painting for many years--mainly abstractions from nature--and have used photographic images as inspiration.  But more recently I've become interested in the digital canvas, perhaps because I can fool around with this without having to lug my painting supplies!

Hi DJ,As F Parker mentioned, I started a group for artists called Art Cafe. Please join us! If you have any questions about digital painting, feel free to send me a note on DK or email me (linda@bellcreativestudio.com) any time. If I don't know the answer I'll have fun trying to help you find it so we can both learn from it. :)

Thanks, Linda.  I've joined Art Cafe & looked at the fabulous art you have posted there.

Thank you! I'm so happy you joined! :)

By the way, Linda founded the Art Cafe group here on DK, where she and other artists display their works. She is also an important member of our Photography Group, who does wonderful photos and always has helpful advice.
