Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So...I posted in the F2b group and haven't gotten much response and the one I did get basically told me the same thing you read on just about every website.  My older (bigger) dood is an F1, no doubt about it.  My little one I was "told" was an F2b.  The breeders explanation was this, F2 (mom) x mini-poodle (dad).  She said she does it this way to get a "truer" mix of poodle in the puppies rather than taking an F1 x F1b.  She said you don't "truly" know what you're going to get percentage wise.  Obviously you don't EVER really know for sure but this way at least you've got a better chance.  Does this makes sense to anyone?  Now I read on another site that her breeding, F1 x F1 = F2, then that F2 x Poodle actually results in an F1B percentage wise even though it is a 2nd generation doodle wise.  Am I crazy? LOL!

But Jennifer, was mom an F1 goldendoodle or an F2? THAT is the question. ;) I'm guessing she was an F1...am I right?  My breeder is apparently quirky or really old school...not sure which but she TRULY believes she's breeding F2bs...I'm not so sure she is anymore.

My understanding is that a doodle only advances one generation past the lowest generation parent and you can tack on a "b" if a parent breed was part of the combo.  But to me, once we get past the F1, F2, F1b stage, it's all about the same.  What I'm always more interested in is what the parents were.  So when someone says F2 or F3 or F2b or F6ABC ;-), I'm more curious what the parent combo was than the actual puppy generation designation.

Okay so here is where I think the confusion sets in after discussing it with a breeder (who agrees with the 'another site' you looked at). I think the reason I'm confused and agree with you (which may or may not be correct) is because we're mixing up percentages of parent breeds with generation/crossings. I always looked at the F12345 numbers as indicative of what was crossed with what...but it seems that the official position includes information about statistical percentages of parent breeds. I don't think the F designation should have anything to do with the statistical percentages of parent breeds in a cross...I think it should only be connected to the generations mixed/crossing involved. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it ;p

I agree with you completely.

Ok so I'm not crazy and maybe my breeder isn't so crazy after all...or we're ALL crazy!  So then in theory it's possible to arrive at an F2b by two different ways if the breed is determined by percentages or rough percentages anyway.  :D  I'm good now.  Thanks for playing along everyone.

Whats a DOUBLE DOODLE ????????? hahaha Is that a F1b bred back to a poodle.? I feel like I'm in a math class. They are all wonderful no matter how many F's or numbers.

Lynette that's a labradoodle bred to a goldendoodle I believe.  Lol.  I can say with 100% certainty I do NOT have one of those. :D
