Vern needs your help. Fudge once had a bed, long before Vern, called the Coolaroo bed. She wouldn't step foot on that bed.
The bed sat around in our house for a bit and finally I moved it outside in the hopes that a friendly woodchuck or fawn would find it accommodating for their needs and drag it off our property. No such luck and the bed just sat outside unused and unwanted.
Then along came Vern!
He fell in love with that bed. He has never slept in the bed, but he loves to dig on it and roll around on it and chew an occasional bone on that green bed. If he is stressed when Grandma is here and sitting on his other chair, or newly clean from the groomers, or feeling happy, or dirty, the first thing he does is jump on that bed and dig and dig and dig. Either that or roll, roll, and roll. It is like therapy on a green bed for Vern.
Vern has had to defend his bed from vicious predators.
Although Vern appears to be very brave, just like a lion, sometimes his fears get the best of him and that bed is his giant pacifier. He knows he doesn't have to hide if his bed is available.
Every week when I mop the floors, under Vern's bed is the dirtiest place in the house. He has wrecked so many covers that we have had to order more, at least seven times. Amazon prices have gone up on the covers because of supply and demand. Little do they know it is only one dog who is the cause of the increase in sales. His name is Vern!
Right this very minute, here is what Vern's bed looks like. When he digs, he hits the floor now.
We have the cover. We are just waiting for someone to put the cover on. The man who lives here is a procrastinator. He keeps promising to get around to doing it. The woman who lives here claims she doesn't know how to put the new cover on. Vern needs help.

Vern, I'm happy to hear that the new cover is on your bed. Nothing like a little public humiliation of your dad to motivate him to change that cover. Laurie you are a wise woman not to take on any more chores because you do it once and you own it. I love all the pictures and every time I see the pic of Vern with the blanket over his head he reminds me of grandma is Little Red Riding Hood.
Donna, I know exactly what happens when I take on another job. How do you think I got the job of mowing our lawn?? I had a weak moment :) The cover is on and grandma Vern is going to be fine...LOL.
Laurie, you really are a jenus (is that how y'all spell it?) I see your plan worked and John suddenly found the time to replace Vern's bed cover. I would love to try this on Tim but something tells me that he won't fall for it : ( I will probably have to use something else besides my writing skills : )
I forgot to say that your pics are great! Vern is just the BEST!
Doris, I see you pull out all the stops to get Tim to do something. I just complain A LOT :) LOL Thank you about the pictures!
Gavin, Vern does the same thing sometimes under our bed :) You silly Doodles!!
Knox does too!! Exactly! Silly doods!
Have you ever thought about writing a book, Laurie? You have such a gift for prose, humor and photography -- and you have the perfect subject matter! All you need now is a publisher. Do you blog outside of Doodle Kisses? If you do, I'd like to share your info with friends and family.
Laurie, Thank you so much! I have been considering getting all my blogs together in one spot, but I only blog on DK. I think you can share them on FB, if that helps, or I think they can read them right here on DK without being a member. I really love to hear this and not because I have a huge ego (LOL), but because I love to write about my dogs and family and I try and put a lot of heart into my stories. It is nice when someone tells me they love them. Thank you!!
My husband puts the PRO in procrastination. He thinks if he waits until the last minute whatever he has to do will only TAKE a minute.
FYI - my brother's dog LOVES this bed due to less pressure on his joins; he was born with hip dysplasia so bad he was going to be euthanized (he has what they call a "floating femur") so for him, this bed is the best!
Marnie, Where have you been?? LOL Don't tell me you have a life away from DK :) We must be married to the same man. LOL I think the bed would be perfect for a dog with hip dysplasia.
What is this life you speak of.......I'm living everyone else's!
And for the record, the photo where Vern is under the dining room chair? I would SO be under the dining room table with him. Just LOOK at that face!
