Next week I am driving from Western Florida up to Long Island, NY, and while I have made the trip before (but usually didn't drive most of the way), I am doing it for the first time alone with my Labradoodle Koda. Koda is really good in the car for the most part but I am worried about having to leave him in the car alone for my own restroom breaks and such. Has anyone ever had to do this and how did it work out? Usually, either my boyfriend or I stay with him while the other goes into the rest stop or wherever, but being that I am doing it alone, I don't have that luxury. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)
Also, does anyone have any good rest stops that would be good for Koda or any other helpful suggestions?
i drive back an forth to our beach house in nc...and i have gone the whole way new smyrna beach with izzy...she knows that we are going on a long trip because she is in the back of the suv with tons of stuff...but she loves it...i make a bed for her and that's it...lights out she will sleep the whole way until i open the back to let her out...nc is 11 hours (that;s with kids & izzy) and new s beach is 16-17 hours, and we do that in one day....the farthest i have ever taken izzy is louisiana that was a 2 dayer...22 hours...she did fine then too...just slept....i did have to sneak her into the hotel though, when i made reservations i spaced asking if they were pet friendly...oopsy. but when i make these trips i am alone except for the kids...the older ones are honestly no help (not be mean) but i am not leaving them in the car alone at a rest stop and they usually have to pee anyways...so we just leave izzy in the car...don't worry you will be fine!! when are you going? because my dad has a list of good and bad rest stops from nc to pa if that helps...ha ha and believe me with all the trips we have made back in forth he has been to everyone of them...ha ha!! he may even have a list the whole way to new s beach...
Thanks for all that. It actually makes me feel a little better that you do long trips pretty much alone a lot and don't have a problem. I know I am just being a big baby about it - haha. I am leaving Wednesday (12/17). That list would actually be such a big help if you can get your hands on it! I would really appreciate it. :)
If you need to make a stop in NJ, we are 10 minutes off 95. Depending on the traffic, you may want to stretch and have a pee break. Just let me know.
When we drive to Pittsburgh (6 hours) Samantha loves to sleep on the floor in the back seat. Unless we stop, she sleeps.
