I went to PetValu to buy kitty litter and there was a 3 year old cat from the humane society there begging to be taken home. She was so pretty and affectionate and playful and my Kitty would have just loved her.

It would be completely irresponsible and impulsive for me to get another cat. I can't afford anymore pets, not to mention the fact that I am turning into a crazy animal lady. The pet store clerks reminded me that we are alowed 5 per household in this city. grrrrrr.

I need to be talked down fast! let me hear your best "no-more-kitties" argument!

Well, one more cat only makes four pets, right? LOL

you are not helping Laurie!

That's what I was thinking....

The cat sounds great and someone else will surely love her. It is important to know your limits! I look at the puppies all the time but two is my limit. How is Kitty with the heat-like symptoms?

Kitty hasn't had many heats over the winter. Once in November and once around Christmas time and that was it. My vet had quoted me $2000 for the surgery which was ridiculous. Finally, the SPCA agreed to do her surgery for free but I need to wait for her cycles to start up again. The surgery needs to be done when she is in heat to have the best chances of finding the wayward piece of ovary. and since the surgery needs to be booked well in advance I have to wait to see what her pattern is in the spring in order to schedule it during one of her cycles. so it will be a while.

I have been told that the surgery is really invasive and therefore risky which kind of worries me...

Well, they would have to search around in her abdomen but all surgery has it's risks.

Just say no! We don't see enough of you around here now so we don't want anything else taking up your DK time. :>))))

Can you afford more vet bills?

lol Donna. She mght bring me back here more often with a whole slew of new issues to deal with :o)

no, not really. well, I could, if I prioritized them over things like, new clothes or my social life.

Think about $, that will help. Food, insurance, vetting, litter, etc for another cat. Keep reminding yourself that " I can't afford anymore pets", lol

Think about the fact that you will need another litter box in the house. (Actually, the common wisdom is that you will need another two litter boxes in the house, as you're supposed to figure 1.5 litter boxes per cat, don;t ask me why, so for two cats you should have three litter boxes.) Do you have room for another one?

Think about the fact that this cat may not like dogs, or may be afraid of them, or may not like Kitty, or Kitty may not really want another cat on her turf, especially another female cat.

Be strong!

Ok, the litter box thing is a very convincing point. I already have trouble finding a good location with the one. Wish Kitty could go out in the yard or on a walk like the doodles!

I know; the litter box issues are the worst part of having a cat IMO. I had to install smaller-than-I-wanted vanities in the bathrooms in two different houses to make room for just one litter box, two or three would have been impossible. And the weekly changing litter and cleaning the litter box was one of my least favorite chores in the world. I miss my cat, but I don't miss that.
