The Yellow Dog Project.  Maybe you have heard of it, maybe you haven't.  Either way, you might learn something new here.
We are proud to say that The Yellow D...og Project's creator is Walks 'N' Wags Pet First Aid's independent Instructor Tara Palardy of Red Deer's The Academy.  Both a dog trainer and dog lover, Tara had seen that there simply was no etiquette to nicely say "Give my dog some space".  So she created a universal form of communication: the yellow ribbon tied to the dog's leash.
The yellow ribbon tied to a dog's leash simply means that you are not to greet them.  They might be sick, recovering from surgery, unreliable with other dogs, or there could be any other host of reasons.
No matter the reason, the yellow ribbon clearly says it all and we think it's a great idea.  Please share this information with your friends

a couple months late there Sheila:  http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/yellow-dog-project-initiat...

haha...just kidding.  (i would throw in some winks and blinkies if I knew how)  :)

I wonder how many people would see a yellow ribon on a dog's leash and know what it means.

I saw that right after I posted it Amy, but it wouldn't let me delete it !! Aaaagh ! Hanging my head in complete shame :(

I don't deserve to use the blinkies or sparkles.....

OMD, self esteem course on order I hope.

Sheila, it is such a new project. I don't give a hooey if it gets posted a 100 times a week.  So does Dog Poop topics.

It is a favorite project of mine. One I hold dear to my heart. I would love to dedicate yellow ribbons to my girl, Starlit.  It needs to be out there, it needs to be posted.

Not everyone reads things the first time. Sooo your yellow dog project post is fine.

THANK  YOU

Thank you for re-opening this discussion.

I want to know, how many people saw this the second time and remembered?   I knew, right away what the topic would be about.

See, posting does work.

And if I ever meet some poor dog, where the owner is trying their hardest to socialize the rescue, I know to stay away.  Because... the dog has asked me to " GIVE THEM A BREAK"

Been there, done that, and I LOVE THIS NEW PROJECT

You are most welcome Joanne. I thought it was a very good topic too. Hopefully my faux pas will be helpful for those that didn't see it the first time.... like me ! :)

You have been asked to post it next month too!

Now, I wish they would have a Green Ribbon Project

It would say, " Please come pet my over anxious greeter. He is just so excited to meet you. Hurry the Dog Poop Bag Up, Will You

Ha ha Joanne, that would be a really great help for the

"over anxious greeter" - I lve it ! Maybe YOU could spearhead this project !

Luna needs a full suit of green ribbons then ;)

Zoe's collar is yellow and she's the most friendliest dog in the world!  maybe i should get her a new one!

I want to try the yellow ribbon.  I just made a comment on Sheila's page that I had to yell at this woman the other day!

I saw her walking with her family and dog and so I took my dogs to the side of the path and had them in a sit /stay and concentrating on me.  While I was fidgeting with their leash (looking down), ALL OF A SUDDEN I FEEL TWO BIG HUGE DOGS PULLING WITH ALL THEIR MIGHT to go towards this little dog to greet her (ok they are not big & huge but i'm 5'2 and was walking them by myself that day).  The lady walked all the way across the path to come say hi and of course my dogs will go nuts!    Yes, Bender looks like a big nice fluffy teddy bear, but he is unpredictable.  So while they were pulling at me i'm trying to hold them back and yelling "MY WHITE DOG IS NOT FRIENDLY !"  She's like "oh really??" still walking towards us.  So I had to yell "GET AWAY FROM MY DOGS YOU CANT JUST WALK UP TO ANY DOG W/O ASKING ESP IF YOU ARE WITH YOUR CHILD!!!!"

Then she finally got the point and was like Ok and backed away.  Her husband said sorry but I don't know if he said it bc he thought I was crazy or if he realized I was right.  I don't think she would've walked up to a rottweiler or large pitbull with her kid and small terrier.

so I need a green ribbon for Zoe and a yellow on for Bender.  talk about mixed messages!

People never cease to amaze me!
