Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi everyone,
My just turned 2 year old very healthy, active Labradoodle 'Jolie' had an episode of incontinence 5 weeks ago. I stepped out of the bathroom and there she was asleep at the foot of the bed in a very large pool of her own urine. There were also two other small patchs on the carpet that i then noticed where i had seen her sleeping within a half hour period before. There was a lot of urine, it was virtually odourless and perfectly clear.
She had never wet herself or made a toileting mistake inside ever before, not even as a puppy, so we took her to the vet straight away. Urine analysis, xrays, ultrasounds, observation for hours all came back clear, no issues. We hoped it was some kind of freak 'one off'. Tonight - almost 6 weeks later- at about the same time as last time and after a very energetic walk & play with frisbee where she got pretty hot & had lots of drinks a few hours earlier (same as last time) she did it again. Can anyone shed some light? tips, ideas? has anyone had this experience with their Labradoodle? She didn't even realise she had wet herself either time. Very worried 'mummy' Deb :0(

Yes he did Christine. I forgot to mention that earlier. The vet we saw is attached to a specialist centre so ran every test he thought may shed some light. The only exception being the reverse dye testing which he said if it was his dog he would wait and see if it started happening more regularly before putting her through that. That one checks for some kind of physiological malformation (which he thinks is unlikely as he feels it would have shown itself before now at 2 yrs of age).
Sedona - our three year old labradoodle - has periodic "leakage" problems; it's far less than what you're describing. After the first time, we took her to the vet. Tests came back clear. The vet believes the problem is related to early spay. We are considering Proin, but since the leakage is relatively minor and infrequent, we're waiting.
I hope you find an answer to why this is happening to your pup!!
Hi Deanna & Sedona, thanks we hope we will find out something also. For sure i will share it if we do. At the moment we are 'observing' .. the wait and see if this gets worse, more frequent etc. By the way... i found a great website that sells 'Brolly Sheets' that one can use as a throw on the foot of the bed or in the dog bed, on the floor where he/she lays. It holds up to 2 litres of water and is 100% cotton on top. This type of sheet is usually used for potty trianing children or elderly people/people after surgery. I think it will be great for us also. I can keep it folded up under the bed and pull it out whenJolie is allowed to sit on the foot of the bed with us.Here is the link
http://www.brollysheets.com/shop/Brolly+Sheets.html you may find it helpful also?
Those are very interesting. Very helpful for protecting the bed.
Another thing that helps protect the mattress is an inexpensive waterproof plastic mattress cover that can go on right under your regular mattress pad. I know Sandy, Hattie, and Theo has her Hattie on medicine for incontinence and I am pretty sure they determined it had to do with early spay. Maybe she can help here or you could send her a message. Good luck!
I think you might not be able to determine that but you can rule out other known causes.
Does anyone know about the natural herbal remedies? Has anyone tried them out? Found any negative side effects from using them? things to watch out for etc?
