My Doodle sheds! I didn't expect it at all. Was told he would be low to no shedding. Is it puppy hair? Will it get better?

What a sweetie!  She reminds me of Luna.  With no facial furnishings, I think her coat will always be more retriever-like which means she will always shed.  Looks like you will be needing a Dyson.  I am sorry that you were misled by your breeder.  Sadly it happens all too often.

I agree completely. It is really a shame that there is so much misinformation out there about doodles being "hypoallergenic" and low-to-non-shedding". When you have heavily shedding breeds like Goldens and Labs in the mix, common sense tells us that this just can't always be true. The saddest thing about these myths is that they are the cause of hundreds of doodles being given up to shelters and rescues.

LeAnn, you might be interested in joining the Where's the Poodle in my Doodle? group, it is fairly active. Just this a.m. there were a couple of people posting about their doodles shedding: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/wheresthepoodleinmydoodle

My labradoodle sheds extremely heavily. As much as any purebred Lab, and it has not gotten better with time. Fortunately, I knew he would shed when I adopted him.

Well we had a Golden before our doodle so was use to the shedding, but was sure hoping to get away from it. We went from having 3 dogs to no dogs in 6 weeks. The house was way to empty so we found us a Doodle. We love him to death, shedding or no shedding :)

Yeah she looks a lot like Luna :)  I think a little more curly though.

Hi LeAnn, I think we may have pups from the same breeder! I left a message on your page. I'm very curious to see if we have pups from the same litter!

LeAnn,  My Camus sheds and his coat is short so I have no grooming expenses and that is a plus.  My best "grooming" tool is the vacuum!

One grooming brush cost me as much as a traditional vacuum ( not Dyson)

It is a waste. I works on his tail only

I know the brushes for doodles with non-shedding/matting coats are expensive. Camus' brush is a hand-me-down (from Einstein), wire brush and my vacuum is a Shark, which rivals the Dyson in suction, but not $$$.  I do love the long coat doodles, but Camus' coat is "wash-n-wear" :)

My Meg is a major shedder.  We went into it with no expectations since she is a rescue.  We did get all her papers with her and contacted the original breeder and he seemed surprised that she is such a shedder.  We vacuum daily, brush daily, use the tape rollers several times daily and apologize to anyone that comes to our house wearing dark clothes (we have about given up on them).  Turns out we lover her anyway, as I suspect you already love yours.  Hope it gets better for you.

I could knit three to four sweaters a week with the hair I sweep up with no end in sight.  But.....I'd sweep every hour on the hour if I had to - I love my goofy, nerdy guy that much!

agree...so do we!!

My doodle, who looks nothing like a retriever, sheds. He didn't shed as much when he was younger but now at 4yrs he is shedding more than ever. Fleece is no longer my friend. It would be nice to have a non shedder, but now I don't care if I'm knee deep in dog hair I wouldn't trade him for anything.
