Hey everyone, I know I posted earlier this week about jace getting neutered and posted last night about the antlers and mentioned it. I commented on the post about him post surgery, but I wanted to post a discussion as well. When we picked Jace up this morning the Tech said that Jace hadn't been bothering his wound much at all and the vet didn't think he needed a cone, so she said to just watch him closely and if he started chewing on it then we needed to come get one, she said the licking wasn't a problem. I then asked about putting a loose t-shirt over him to prevent him from licking and she said she didn't recommend that as it restricted ventilation to the wound... I dont know about that, what do you all think?

A loose cotton T-shirt would not prevent the flow of air. It's fine. I hope Jace has a speedy recovery.

I'll be interested in the replies as Boris was neutered on Thursday and is wearing a cone as per the vet instructions. He doesn't seem to mind it but I can't wait to take it off.

I agree completely.

Licking is all dogs can do for their owie.  No problem, but chewing at the incision sight can be.  If you feel better about a tee-shirt and he doesn't mind, go for it.

What kind of underwear does this vet tech wear?

:o)

We use boys underwear with a hole cut in the seat for the tail. If they are too big, we pull up the waistband and tied it. I know some turn them around and use the fly for the tail opening, but for us that does not work as well. Take them off them he has to go potty. We have 3 male doodles and have done this with all of them and it has worked great. The underwear or a t-shirt are not tight enough to restrict any air flow. Good luck
Louie was just neutered this past Thursday. Our vet told us we would need to use the cone for 14 days. He was so unhappy in that cone I couldn't take it for 14 hours never mind 14 days. I researched alternatives and ended up using boxer briefs. Louie is much happier and less stressed. I have been monitoring his incision daily and it looks absolutely fine. I would highly recommend the use of something like this instead of the cone if your puppy shows extreme aversion to it like mine did. Good luck and speedy recovery to Jace!
